November 26, 200916 yr I stated myself that Cousins still needed to mature. For somebody to say that Cousins did his best to give the game away though is way off, and unfair. :thumb: Cal said it best, .. he was just trying to do too much, .... just as Wall was in the first half. They are young and learning. And I still wonder why some of our UK fan brethren give the rest of us a bad name. :idunno:
November 26, 200916 yr I would like to see a little more effort on defense, some boxing out and more flow on offense - buy I'll take a win any time I can get one! They are 6-0 and they deserve their ranking until they lose.
November 26, 200916 yr As for this game, I am glad to get an win and I was glad to see how imo U.K.'s kids stepped it up in the o.t...............played good "D" in the o.t., got on the boards and played smart. Had the Cats played that way in regulation there wouldn't have been any o.t., we would had won going away. Stanford imo was the best team hat U.. has played so far and they are not great. I continue to be impressed with Wall, the guy imo is amazing. I wish we would have him for least another (sohomore) year but know that just will not happen. I know this is repeating what just about everyone hs been saying but this team is driving me nuts! Should Coach Cal get these kids all on the same page and playing defense on every trip down the floor, rebound on every trip and play with all out hustle on every trip then there is no limit to what they can do. This team is very young and imo will get nothing but better. I know that is true and I have to keep telling myself that when I am going crazy watching the bad defense, lazy passing, what seems like not wanting to give it ll on every trip down the floor. Right now this team is relying on their pure talent thinking hat will be all that is needed. UConn, UNC are coming up very soon and should we play like we have been been that will be 2 losses, JMO.

November 26, 200916 yr The best think about this Cancun Tournament........1.) We Won! and 2.)It's Over and we don't have to play on that floor in a "meeting/convention" room converted into a gym. Next season U.K. will be in Maui during this time. :thumb:
November 26, 200916 yr First time UK has had to play back to back days this year. They looked a little leg weary early. Wall hit some crucial shots down the stretch and the Bledsoe three was big. Cousins has very bad body language when he gets frustrated. I wont call him spoiled because I dont know him. But I dont see this kind of body language from anyone else. Body language tells a lot and I'm not liking what I have seen so far from his when the chips are down. Right now, I cant see this team winning at Florida or Tennessee. Of course, they have another month to iron it out before SEC play begins. I still forsee a large mushroom cloud over the state in March when this team doesn't advance as far as UK fans would like.
November 26, 200916 yr UK isn't a top five team right now, I agree. They got the talent to get there, but they are very overranked right now. UK is a top 25 team but closer to 25 than 5. You are correct OR, a lot of people have Stanford picked last in the Pac 10. The Fields kid can ball though. Havent seen anyone picking them to be last, but have seen them at 8 or 9 in the PAC 10. They are not very good. They kept it close and ran their stuff until UK broke down on defense. Kentucky has the ability to clamp down, I think the overtime is a pretty good example of what they can do when they want to. They key is getting that level of defensive play for forty minutes. UK's defense is not very good. They were horrid tonight, especially trying to defend the basic flex cuts. Why Cal didnt have Harris on Fields was confusing...Wall had nothing for him. Plus Wall has got to get to the glass some. Then it's time for him to "suck it up" and become a man. Cousins just makes terrible decisions...his three from top of key late was dumb dumb dumb as was his free throw. Cal has got to find ways to get Patterson more shots. I much prefer him in the post during crunch time than Cousins. :thumb: Cal said it best, .. he was just trying to do too much, .... just as Wall was in the first half. They are young and learning. And I still wonder why some of our UK fan brethren give the rest of us a bad name. :idunno: Cousins has got to play smarter no questions about it. Cal should have quick hook with him. As for this game, I am glad to get an win and I was glad to see how imo U.K.'s kids stepped it up in the o.t...............played good "D" in the o.t., got on the boards and played smart. Youth is a big issue for this team and it is going to take a while for them to really gel.
November 26, 200916 yr Got a question on a call in tonight's game. R. Harris drove the lane, made the shot. The ref counted the shot, but called him for a charge (I think)?? Then they walked to the other end and the Stanford player shot free throws. I thought there were not shots taken on a player control foul. The only explanation I can come up with is that the foul was called on another UK player, if so who got called for that foul? Can someone help me out here?
November 26, 200916 yr Wow, what negativity. UK just picked up an overtime win to move to 6-0 on the season. The win was the second in as many nights, in an odd environment, against a Pac-10 team that may not be great but is well coached, and all everyone on here is doing is bashing players for being spoiled and the team for their ranking? Color me confused. Look, I'm not making excuses. The Cats didn't play great. But if you look at every championship-caliber team they always have these types of games. Is Kentucky a championship-caliber team? Who knows. But I don't think an eight point overtime victory diminishes them much. Are the Cats the number five team in the country? Probably not. But I'm not sure there are more than five teams I'd pick to beat Kentucky on a neutral court. But perhaps more importantly, it doesn't matter. This isn't the BCS. Kentucky isn't hoping to win out and make the Sugar Bowl. You guys have to realize that the University of Kentucky isn't going undefeated. No one is going undefeated this year and I don't believe it will ever happen again. The days of UNLV '91, Indiana '76, and San Francisco '55 are long since past. What we should all do is take a step back, relax, remember that it's the sixth game of the season, and most of all remember that KENTUCKY WON! Here here! Makes me want to raise a glass and salute you. The fact of the matter is this YOUNG and INEXPERIENCED team has found ways to win. Its not been pretty but they have found ways. With each game they get experienced, and without experience Wall has shown he is a gamer, and they have all shown a knack to win. They are going to lose sometime, its just a matter of time. Fact is last two years Kentucky probably sits at 3-3 right now and not undefeated. Until this team gets blown out by twenty, and until they play this way in late Feb. I am not going to worry.
November 26, 200916 yr Coming back from 18 and hanging on to win that game against Miami. Then coming up with the shot to send this in to overtime, and then the way they sealed the deal in overtime is going to pay off by seasons end. I know everyone wants 20+ point wins, but like or or not inexperienced guys have got themselves into less than ideal situations and found ways to win. There's no way to coach or prepare for situations like those, you just have to learn from experience. Those two wins are going to be more important down the stretch than any of the blow outs IMO.
November 26, 200916 yr I stated myself that Cousins still needed to mature. For somebody to say that Cousins did his best to give the game away though is way off, and unfair. I wonder if he was told to miss that 2nd free throw or if he did it on his own, then subsequently committed a foul going for the board.
November 26, 200916 yr I wonder if he was told to miss that 2nd free throw or if he did it on his own, then subsequently committed a foul going for the board. No way Coach Cal told him to miss that free throw. They were only down 2 with 10 seconds to play. You make that free throw, and then take your chances down 1.

The ball was out of his hands before he charged into the Stanford player. That is why the basket counted, and it wasn't a player control foul.
November 26, 200916 yr By the way I haven't seen it mentioned yet, but did anyone else see Dwight Perry come of the Stanford bench at the end of regulation. I wonder who he was really rooting for tonight?
November 26, 200916 yr Someone made the comment early on that Cousins is 19 and a young man. I still feel they are all young men with alot of room to grow. I remember when I was 18 and left Kentucky and headed to South Carolina. I arrived with 84 other 18 and 19 year olds. We were from all over the United States and we new nothing about what we were about to learn and do. By the end of 12 weeks we were all still young polished Marines. During that 12 weeks some packed it in and could not handle it. Everyone needs room to grow and I think we will see this over the next several weeks with this Kentucky Team. They are fun to watch and yes at times I want to hide my head too. We will all learn to grow and love this team and I can't wait to watch them again and again as long as my heart can handle it. A true blue Kentucky fan and yes I do bleed blue. JD:jump:
