Let's try this again. We do not draw from three counties. The vast majority of our players grew up and played in our own Fort Thomas Junior Football League. Someone else will have to provide you with more precise figures. But again -- terribly weak excuse.

Since Pulaski has never made it this far before and played a program like Highlands at this point in the season there has been a lot of talk locally about the game and what the Maroons are up against. I guess I'd like to get some things cleared up. With Pulaski being from an area with a much smaller population and much more rigid enrollment boundries the fact that their school has more students than Highlands is negated. The question I have is this: How many of Highlands players actually live in Fort Thomas and how many live in Ohio? I know with the open enrollment everything is legal and stuff, I guess I just wanted to know how a program of Highland's stature draws kids from around the region.

I'm not sure. My team is preparing for Sheldon Clark's kids.....I'm not a Pulaski fan.

I am sure a few of the boys might have been born in an Ohio Hospital, does this count:lol:. Perhaps that is what makes them so much better than the others. They can claim being born in OH would give a few of them super powers that they can use on all the others. The kids grow up in Fort Thomas in a community that loves football. They dedicate and pride themselves to be able to continue the tradition. They work hard and trust me we moved in the area prior to our kids being born because of the academics and sports programs available at the school. I was on the other side of the fence and see the sweat and tears put in by all, I can't blame them at all for this type of nonsense.:madman:

The county schools have a border and each child has to attend the school in the district in which they reside and the county system limits the number of students that can attend Somerset to 240 in grades K-12. Above that Somerset does not receive state funds for the students. So there are no kids on Highlands roster that live in Ohio? And almost all of the students live right in Fort Thomas?

 

 

I can't think of any current players who reside in Ohio, and only 1 that I recall in the last few years. And, as Leatherneck points out annually when this discussion comes up, there really isn't a great desire for Ohio kids to want to play football in Kentucky. Ohio has something like 750+ schools playing football to Kentucky's 250, and within the Greater Cincinnati area, there has been a sense that KY doesn't play real football.

Plus, you can also add, that not all of the good football players in Fort Thomas go to Highlands. There are quite a few that go to schools like Newport Catholic etc.
