This game has all the makings of a classic "trap game" for Highlands. The team was undoubtedly keyed up to play Johnson Central last week, given how tough a game JC gave Highlands last year. Having won that game, they get to host a state semifinal game against PC, a team with three losses who has never advanced this far in the playoffs. Highlands knows that awaiting them (if they beat PC) will be a very tough opponent: BG (who held Trinity to 9 points this season and has beaten Owensboro and Christian County in the playoffs so far) or JH (who is undefeated). As a result, the PC game is sort of "buried" in between the JC game and the BG/JH state title game. Hopefully, HHS will stay focused and approach every game and every opponent one at a time!

I appreciate your concern, but I don't think it is founded. Not once this season have they been caught "looking ahead" do the next game.

They are on a mission, and the preparations are under way as I write. You can't get to Bowling Green (the state game, not the team) unless and until you beat Pulaski County. I am confident that every player and coach knows this!:thumb:

Kinda remindes me of the chicken dance. (JMO)

JB, your killing us here ... you know we deal with the looking ahead each week and I didn't see it in this thread! Not one of our own saying it!!

Somerset is in Pulaski County which is located in South Central Kentucky. I figured all you Northern football fans Knew where lake Cumberland was at.:D

Wow, is Lake Cumberland still officially a lake?

I too understand your concern. But if you are not sitting in David Cecil every Friday nite feeling the atmosphere then it would be easy to make assesments such as yours. Dale has these guys focused perhaps more than ever and one can certainly feel the intensity and excitment throughout the week at practices and especially on game nites. I know you dont live in Ft T anymore and not real sure how many games you have had the opportunity to see in person so far this yr but Iam sure it could be very easy to watch films and listen on the web and get a totally different feel for the game then the real deal on Friday Nite. Still waiting on these Highlands "web guys" to start the live feed of the game so perhaps they can bring the true Highlands fans such as yourself some sort of real feeling of the game. Never did like listening to the opposing team broadcasters because they always start those games out "we have a chance tonite" and "we match up well with Highlands" and then usually around the 3rd qtr it goes something like "they turned it over to many times" or "they just dont prepare enough". You get the point.

Look, my point is that it's hard for a team to be "up" for EVERY SINGLE GAME, and I have no doubt that last week's JC game was a draining one for the 'Birds. My comment should in no way be interpreted as a knock on Highlands... these are teenage kids playing, not professionals. I can't even imagine being able to compete like these kids are, knowing that they have a HUGE bullseye on their back week in and week out.

That will be awesome! A great thing for those of us who don't always get to as many games as we would like. :thumb:

No I understand what your saying just giving you a hard time for the dreaded "over looking" comment that we get too often. The Birds will be ready... remember this is the last home game ever for many of them.

To give any of the Pulaski Co. folks the benefit of the doubt, Ft. Thomas does sit geographically 1 county East of a school system that allows the type of open enrollment inquired about. Had they been playing Scott this week rather than HHS, a reasonable inquiry would have been:

"Despite the #s which show that PC has more students than Scott, what is the pool of students from which Scott draws (i.e., the entirety of Kenton County since any kid in Kenton County could go to Scott)?"

As pointed out above, Fort Thomas is an independent school system located geographically within Campbell County (much as Somerset is an independent school system located geographically within Pulaski County). It is my understanding that each student athlete at HHS must either live within the school's geographic reach OR be a tuition student that meets the eligibility requirements set forth by the KHSAA.

^ Sounds dead on to me. Then again I know nothing about the technical aspects.

You are right, that it is hard. But as Sweep pointed out, the focus and intensity are there!

If you look at the season on the whole, then 15 games in 16 weeks can be daunting. But, if you buy into the concept of one game at a time, it is really a manageable task. The coaches do an excellent job making this point, and it shows.

You mean like the Bengals playing the Raiders ! :D

Speaking of license plates I saw one after the game that read "CAKE-ETR" (I'm not telling what state it was.) I thought that was pretty cool !!!!

Just so everyone knows, that car belongs to a friend of mine who happens to be a alumni from the class of 79 at HHS. She just now resides in Ohio but still continues to be a loyal Bluebird Fan and is darn proud of it.
