I would love to see a competitive game..I just don't think it will happen. Nothing against the Maroons, they just haven't seen anything close to what they will experience Friday night. Highlands speed will be a shock...JMO
No doubt Highlands is very good-but Pulaski is better than Johnson Central.

Not even close....

Highlands is really a small, landlocked school. No room or money for bigger facilities.
That's one of the aspects that make it such a unique environment. You have school buildings and the HHS sideline pressed up so tightly against the field on one side that it seems the school will swallow the whole field. The stands, with fans of both teams, and the passing crowd are one with the visitors bench. An additional school building and small stands are squeezed up against one endzone. The other endzone features the scoreboard, a burger grill, a bunch of rowdy old men, and a dark and spooky woods. It's like playing in a fish bowl. All the sounds echo back and forth and the air is filled with an energy that cuts right through you unless you make yourself a part of it.

Oh, it will be close, Pulaski is good but they won't blow Highlands out!

They definitely are more two-dimensional than JC.

I think the overwhelming majority of Highlands fans understands that any team who makes it this far into the playoffs is a good team - luck only gets you so far. I know some of us can be a bit over the top on this board, but the program itself hasn't gotten this far by not properly respecting their opponents.

I've heard it both ways on the JC vs Pulaski topic. I'll take that as meaning they're very close - different offensive styles, but overall close. Unfortunately, you have to be quite a bit better than JC to beat Highlands - that's of course assuming Highlands plays a decent game, which they show no signs of not doing.

And just to touch on the speed thing - everyone who plays Highlands for the first time in some years, and hasn't played one of the big L-ville or 'Nati schools recently, is shocked initially. Even 'Nati St. X was surprised I believe.

It should be over by the end of the 1st quarter. Highlands 63-7.

Some of these posts are quite similar to ones we had on 07. Like this year Highlands hosted the playoffs, and a couple of teams with great records and high expectations rolled into the Fort, sincerely believing that the Birds were in for a shock. The two teams that Highlands hosted in the quarters and semis had a combined record of 22-3. The combined score for those two games was 101-33. Total for all 4 games was 191-33. Tell me why this year will turn out differently from that year?

Really? I hadn't noticed.

Highlands was shocked in 2002 by Rockcastle. Highlands better not underestimate PC or the same might happen. But the 2002 Rockcastle team was better than the 2009 PC team IMO. How can PC get on here and say they are better than Johnson Central. JC is probably better than anyone PC has played this year. If JC is a running team then they would beat PC, Rock ran for a ton of yards. BUT we didnt finish and let PC win in the end.

What-you mean they don't have 22 D1 players? Reading all the Highlands post you would think they could beat Kentucky. Highlands is Highlands but Pulaski will bring in a group of young men that have been underdogs all year. I don't think your Mighty Bluebird stadium will scare the Maroons. Regardless of the outcome, I think you will be impressed with the Maroons players and their heart.:sssh:

You do know we have a giant projected Bird on the side of the concession stand building right? Fear the Bird!

It is a lot harder to game plan for JC than PC. JC runs an offense that you see once a year and don't practice against. PC has an offense that the Birds see all the time. That's why I don't think this will be much of a game. JMO

JC vs Pulaski would have been an interesting game. Watching Whitley move the ball on the ground vs Pulaski (disclaimer: I only watched the first half last night), I'm confident that JC would have moved the ball very well against Pulaski on the ground. Whitley rushed for over 400 yards against Pulaski for what it's worth. That being said, Pulaski would have moved the ball against JC. Pulaski runs a wide open, spread, pass oriented offense that would have been a challenge for JC to stop. Pulaski likes to stretch the opponents D all over the field and if the opponent over commits to stop the pass, both the qb and number 11 (Abner) can run the ball in the openings created. Both have nice speed and quickness. Abner is also a very dangerous receiver out of the back field (he may have been their leading receiver against Whitley). If I had to pick between JC and Pulaski, I'd probably go with whomever is the home team.

If the Birds come out and don't have stupid penalties and turnovers, the Birds win comfortably. They simply have a better all around football team than Pulaski and that's not insulting Pulaski. If they do make those mistakes and Pulaski doesn't, it could be a close game. I hope Dale is doing the ball stripping drill again this week. Methinks that Pulaski defenders are going to be trying to strip the ball on every tackle.
