I watched the game and knew of Dixon but it was my first look. Very good back and I hope we were watching also we have him in two weeks.

 

Liked to see Cats pull it out and thought they would, the redzone mistakes really hurt them. Newton is a true freshman, will get better, not his fault the first stringer is injured. Hartline plays Cats win.

Cobb had over 140 yards of offense and a TD. I don't see how you say Miss. State stopped him. UK just went away from using him in the 2nd half, and I still think it had to be due to him being injured.

 

I heard the radio guys say that Cobb's last offensive touch of the game was when he scored the TD I believe in th 3rd qtr., hard to understand how that can happen. This along with poor run defense and no defensive adjustments cost UK this game.:idunno:

I actually came away impressed with the offense. King is impressive, Matthews is starting to show up, and Cobb is Cobb.

 

If the defense doesn't give up 348 rushing yards :eek: then UK wins. Can't pin this on the offense, IMO.

:thumb: I agree 110%. Newton is progressing. He made some bigtime 3rd down throws and showed a little bit better accuracy. Still overthrowing some, but getting better. I would like to see them put a little bit more on his shoulders. The problem was that in the trenches, UK wasn't as physical as they were against Auburn or for that matter in many of their games. Miss St just whipped them up front. The offense did enough to win and defense fell way short of what they needed. Not having Lindley and Micah not being 100% really hurt them, but Miss St just outworked the Cats in the trenches IMHO.

Once again some of you are seeing things in Newton that I don't see. He is not accurate which can be improved but his pocket presence and lack of general feel for the game is something that is hard to teach.

 

Let's not forget the good things he did, several nice rushes and a few good passes. Although he looks slow, he had some nice gains on the ground. I agree with the lack of accuracy and pocket presence, but that will come with experience. I'll never understand him running the ball in the red zone on 1st and 2nd down on the last drive. I believe Cobb or Locke around the end would have tied the game, assuming we got the extra point. What in the world was "Choker" thinking! :ohbrother:

Did you watch Woodson as a frosh/soph? Newton made some huge 3rd down throws in this one on that last drive. He is learning but the game is MUCH faster at this level than he has ever seen before. I already see improvement and believe he will be fine. He has a very good feel for the game, but is still adjusting to the speed of the SEC. It is a whole different ball game at this level.

One of those runs by Newton was a miss step that led to a missed hand off. I really feel Derrick Locke did not run the football down there because he aggravated the scar tissue on his surgically repair knee, earlier in the game and was not 100%.

 

The real mystery is how could Randall Cobb not touch the football in the 4th quarter of this game.

The funny thing is they ran Newton earlier in the game several consecutive times with the success of a touchdown. :confused:

I did not say he was slow, but looks slow. Probably because he is big. I was excited to go to this game because I was anxious to see him in live action. I was not dis-appointed.... If Locke did not return because of the injury, I stand corrected. I did not realize he had aggravated the knee. I thought he looked great on his carries.

I still keep thinking about that fumble by Alfonso Smith at the start of the 2nd half. UK was up 17-10 and had the ball to start the half and the fumble seemed deflating and Miss. St. had a short field and just gashed the D to even the score 17-17. I know he has been hurt but he has been a big letdown.
