Dick Vitale states recruits should be released to go anywhere but KY.

That is probably fair for the ones who have signed letters of intent. Cal should encourage them to honor their LOI to Memphis.

I would ask you to flip your perspective...let's just say UK actually earned the commitments of 2 four stars and a five, and the guy they committed to, went to Villanova, what would your opinions be on simply releasing them wherever they wanted to go? If you feel you are old enough to SIGN a commitment to a team, then go, or pay your own way.

I'm jumping in late, but if they didn't want to be at UK I would hope that the school would allow them to leave and go where they would want to be. I would also hope that the replacement coach would have a player or two that wanted to come w/ him. The issue here is that the players have it in their LOI that if he's not there they are back open. So Dick V and you need to ease off of the soap box a tad. Basketball is going to become like football really soon IMO and kids will commit but not sign. I don't think that will be good for the game. I would rather every kid sign, but have it in their LOI that they are free to go EVERYWHERE else in the country if the coach they commited to leaves. If I was advising any kid in the top 50 they would never sign under any condition even if the coach recruited over them. The kids that are waiting are still going to great institutions. I ask you this how would you like it if 3 5*'s verballed to Duke, but were smart enough not to sign, yet they were still being recruited by UNC and Wake and then on signing day two went to UNC and the other went to Wake while Duke got zero kids?

Are coaches allowed attending the McDonalds All American game? Does anyone think Cal or any of the rest of the staff will be on hand?

Anyone know if we will be able to watch the press conference online this morning?

WKYT is streaming it live now.

In your lifetime, and mine, the program that I support has been a top notch, rule abiding program, and has proven to be superior to yours, jealousy and envy are two traits that I don't embrace.

Just choosing to ignore the other part of that post:clap:

And just because you say you don't possess envy or jelousy, doesn't mean you don't. I can say my screen name isn't 00Rocket28, doesn't make it true though:thumb:

Keep on hating:idunno:

And you're basketball program has been superior? That's hilarious!

I am sure they are probably allowed, and if I they are and I was Cal, I would definitely be down there wanted to talk to my recruits face to face about coming to UK.

You do know that RP is a Duke fan, right?

His comment may or may not have been hilarious. I suppose that's a personal thing. But, I'd say Duke's record in the last 30 years or so (not sure how old RP is) could more than hold it's own with KY. Additionally, he touched "rule abiding"...in that regard, there's no comparison. KY is about 20 years removed from a near death penalty. Has there even been a hint of rule breaking at Duke?

As much as I get annoyed with some of the constant barbs, he's got you this time.

I thought he was referring to Louisville, since everyone was talking about Krag at UL, nevermind then

Players should have the opportunity to "re-think" when the coach leaves. They signed on to a program to which the coach is a big part. The next coach my have a different philosophy that doesn't match what the player was looking for. Same is true when a new coach comes in....those players too should have the opportunity to re-think their desire to stay.JMO

Actually, his comment in the press conference was that he would not recruit those kids to Kentucky who had already signed with Memphis. He stated that doing so would be a violation of NCAA regulations.

Verbals are a different story as a verbal means nothing to the NCAA. Until they sign, they are open for recruitment.

I did find it very positive that his first trip will be to Okl to meet with Orton and his parents.

That doesn't mean they still aren't coming. He is just saying they still honor their committments, you gotta read between the lines a little. I am sure he wants them and will do what he can to get them (legally). But he has to look good PR wise and he certainly did.

I think that's probably the only lie he told today. :thumb:

I paid very close attention to that comment and picked up on the fact he said he could not talk to them after he signed the contract yesterday. Sooooo...... I am sure we are all hoping he took care of all that prior to signing.
