Memphis Rivals Says...John Calapari New UK Basketball Coach

Featured Replies

Thanks.

I wonder if Henry comes, and Cousins, and Wall added to Meeks and patterson, if UK doesn't win it all, does the sky come falling down on Calipari in year 1?

Should the sky come falling down if UK doesn't win it all with all that talent?

Should it? No.

Will it? You betcha! :thumb:

If they can play at Memphis they will be able to play at UK.

Must have a 2.0 GPA and 18 on act

Or in the top half of your class. Must have two of the three.

Should it? No.

I'm thinking the same thing. If he comes and brings his stable of recruits, or even just 1 of them, things turn to the good for UK even quicker than they would with his hiring. Add in the fact that two guys who will reportedly transfe are eligible after the next year and his sure to be top 10 or higher recruiting class for 2010-11, UK will be a very talent rich school once again.

Now can he or will he win the big game that has failed him his career?

Actually, I don't think either of these numbers are set in stone.

For instance, if the GPA is higher than a 2.0, then the ACT score can be lower than an 18.

I think it is directly proportional. I would guess there are a lot of college basketball players who did not score an 18 on the ACT.

If he can reel in John Wall and retain Daniel Orton, things turn around instantly.

Of course, this is all assuming he is our next coach...

I've heard a rumor that Henry has signed scholarship papers, but not a LOI. I don't have that confirmed but the person I got it from is a national guy with a ton of connections. He's checking into it and getting back to me. If Memphis St releases from his LOI he is free to go wherever he wants unless they restrict schools...

Memphis has a signed National Letter of Intent (NLI) with three recruits: Will Coleman and Darnell Dodson, the junior college transfers, and high school senior Xavier Henry. It is not possible for those potential student-athletes to break their commitment without getting a release from the U of M. If the U of M were to give those three a release, they could immediately re-open their recruitment. It would then be possible, of course, for them to follow Calipari to UK. Though that is a possibility, it is highly improbable. It simply does not happen very often. DeMarcus Cousins, who has given a verbal commitment to Memphis, would be free to sign an NLI with anyone he chooses—including, of course, Kentucky. John Wall, the consensus number one recruit in the country, has not indicated what school he wishes to attend. Obviously, he, too, would be free to sign with any school of his choice. Kentucky has never been on his list, which could change if Calipari takes the job there

Yet again, the number of scholarships available will be a big issue if this happens as there aren't enough to go around.

UK is already short with their own signed recruits assuming only Carter's and Williams' scholarships open up.

I'm aware everyone thinks he signed it, just hearing it might be scholarship papers and not a LOI...

Anything new yet GT? Anymore rumors you have heard?

Had to cook dinner so I've been away for a few. I'll get back on it...

Exactly what I'm trying to say:thumb:.

This means, if we get the players that are supposedly coming IF Calipari comes to UK, we will have to have some transfers or decommmits for 09 to make room for the players so alot has to happen from now until the opening of the fall semester for UK for the 09/10 season.

I was listening to an interview here on Virginia Radio with the voice of the Memphis Tigers. He was explaining that Calipari had put in his LOI's for Memphis an escape clause for any student-athlete that signed and the coach left before they came. This was due to a player who had signed with UAB and Mike Davis was gone. He then had to sit out a year. Calipari didn't like it and negotiated with UM to have this kind of wording for a LOI with Memphis.

Just sharing what I heard and it surprised me. :thumb:

Don't know if it answers this question or not.
