March 26, 200917 yr Author He's already the best coach ever at Florida, has won two National Championships, and still had only a little over 4.000 show up for a NIT game. Who cares about the NIT? I don't... He can be the gator legend if he retires there.
March 26, 200917 yr Author EXACTLY!!!!!!!! DING DING DING!!! Just imagine how the country would perceive him if he were to bring UK back to prominence and win a championship. He would be considered the best coach in the country, HANDS DOWN!! I think that's the reason why he takes the job, the challenge of it and the glory when he succeeds because he will succeed. If UK is a premier job? then wouldn't it be more of a challenge to go to a school that has never won a championship?
March 26, 200917 yr You have to be kidding about Joe B. Hall. There were many fans calling for his job his last few years at Kentucky. I only know how he is now. He is revered by fans. I was only 1 year old his last year, so I'd have no idea about what was going on then.
March 26, 200917 yr He's already the best coach ever at Florida, has won two National Championships, and still had only a little over 4.000 show up for a NIT game. And half of them were probably just there hoping to catch a glimpse of Urban Meyer.
March 26, 200917 yr I think he feels like a king there. If he stays at Florida he can become the best coach ever there, if he isn't already. At UK he will never pass Rupp or Ricky. He may never pass Rupp but he very well could pass Pitino in fans' eyes with a couple championships. He he won 2 championships at UK like at Florida, he would definately be there right behind Rupp considering he brought us back to prominence. The next few days will be very interesting, that's for sure!!
March 26, 200917 yr Here are a few 1. Play infront of 23,500 of the best fans in college bball 2. Win and you are a legend 3. For Billy D. he would be coaching at his old job and coaching at a bball school 4. For Calipari he would be coaching at the most storied program in college bball instead of Memphis who has a fraction of the history at UK.
March 26, 200917 yr He's got a huge ego just like his old boss, and he'll always be 2nd fiddle in Florida. I believe he will feel like a new coach again if he takes the UK job. It is still considered one of the top programs in the country. Bingo. He is ready for the next challenge in his coaching career. I can't think of a better time to come.

The next few days will be very interesting, that's for sure!! I have a question for you. Would you rather be the coach of a school where you won two championships, retire there and be the legend. Have a court named after you and considered the best coach ever at that university. Or would you rather go to another school where if you had two season like you just had, your head would be on the chopping block and even if you did win big, you would never be considered the best in schools history???

Depends on whether you want to be a real big fish in a little basketball pond, or a kinda big fish in a basketball ocean.
March 26, 200917 yr For what it's worth, the World Equestrian Games will be held in Lexington, Ky. in 18 months.
March 26, 200917 yr To awnser your question: 1. Money talks 2. Unlimited fan/University support 3. Tons of national media exposure. 3b. All the above helps to land elite talent.
March 26, 200917 yr I think that is over rated. The true blue fan, its big, but to the rest of the world not that big of a deal. JMO I don't think it is over rated at all. UK is a premier job, no question about it. UK carries a lot of weight with their name and to bring them to prominence would carry any coaches ego to "nth" degree. Succeed at UK and you are a hero, there is no other competition, UK Football, as much as I love it will not take away from your attention, NFL, NBA and other majors are not even on the radar. To coach UK basketball to the top puts you in very high regard.
