March 26, 200917 yr Author Here are a few 1. Play infront of 23,500 of the best fans in college bball. Best fans is your opinion, but may also be the fastest fans to turn on you 2. Win and you are a legend. He can do the same at Florida 3. For Billy D. he would be coaching at his old job and coaching at a bball school. He was just an assistant. He was not raised as a UK fan. He doesn't have the same love for UK as you do. 4. For Calipari he would be coaching at the most storied program in college bball instead of Memphis who has a fraction of the history at UK. He seems to be making his own history at Memphis...
March 26, 200917 yr Ok, almost everyone on here knows I am not a UK fan, but I think it lets me look at it with unbiased glasses. Billy D... Why would he leave Florida for any school that is not a NBA team. I think the gators can pay close to what UK can and will. Why come to a place where, you are loved or hated by how you do in your last game? I think if he stays in Florida, he becomes a legend by the time he retires. Have courts named after him, ect... He can get the same level recruits there, that he can here, so he has the same chance of winning more championships there as here. The same goes for John Calipari. I think Pelphrey and Ford, want to be here, because they were raised with Blue blood and played for UK. I am open for debate... Billy D will never be Urban Myer plain and simple. It is a football school and always will be. UK is arguably the most storied team in college basketball history definatly top 3. Where does Fla rank on that list? Now if you want to talk football it's a different story. Cal has it made at Memphis IMO. Ego might be the only answer there. You can be somewhere like Boise St in football where you are going to win most of the time now like Memphis in basketball. Winning at Boise St and winning at say Texas is much different IMO. Each coach has his own feelings about what that means to them when chosing a job. Pelphrey+Ford both have a great legacy at UK. I would love to see them win at UK but hate to see them come back and lose. It's hard to one up what they are right now in UK history.
March 26, 200917 yr EXACTLY!!!!!!!! DING DING DING!!! Just imagine how the country would perceive him if he were to bring UK back to prominence and win a championship. He would be considered the best coach in the country, HANDS DOWN!! I think that's the reason why he takes the job, the challenge of it and the glory when he succeeds because he will succeed. To win a title at UK, having already won 2 at Florida, wow. Not just Billy D. but any coach outside of the ones at the other top jobs would have to at least consider the thought of coming to coach UK, at least that is the way I see it.
March 26, 200917 yr I have a question for you. Would you rather be the coach of a school where you won two championships, retire there and be the legend. Have a court named after you and considered the best coach ever at that university. Or would you rather go to another school where if you had two season like you just had, your head would be on the chopping block and even if you did win big, you would never be considered the best in schools history??? Life is about challenges to a lot of people. D has accomplished everything he could at Florida and will always be second fiddle to football down there. Time for the next challenge...
March 26, 200917 yr Author I don't think it is over rated at all. UK is a premier job, no question about it. UK carries a lot of weight with their name and to bring them to prominence would carry any coaches ego to "nth" degree. Succeed at UK and you are a hero, there is no other competition, UK Football, as much as I love it will not take away from your attention, NFL, NBA and other majors are not even on the radar. To coach UK basketball to the top puts you in very high regard. So his two championships would mean more at UK than Florida? If so explain...
March 26, 200917 yr So his two championships would mean more at UK than Florida? If so explain... To the fans? Absolutely. The people in Florida are only talking about that football title.
March 26, 200917 yr There are six jobs in my opinion that almost anybody in the country would accept a phone call from. In no particular order... Duke Indiana Kansas Kentucky North Carolina UCLA That doesn't mean those schools can name their coach, but they can be pretty close. We all think of coaches as regular joes, but they are all egotistical. They all want to do better than every coach before them. And these six jobs allow for that to happen.
March 26, 200917 yr Author Life is about challenges to a lot of people. D has accomplished everything he could at Florida and will always be second fiddle to football down there. Time for the next challenge... So would you rather have a guy that once he meets one challenge, then he packs up and moves to the next?
March 26, 200917 yr So his two championships would mean more at UK than Florida? If so explain... Do you really think Florida fans covet the basketball titles like the UK fan base? Can you seriously think they are the same thing? Is every coach who wins a title remembered forever without fail, or do we remember certain coaches more than others because of the schools they coached. Think about it a bit.
March 26, 200917 yr So his two championships would mean more at UK than Florida? If so explain... Kentucky still talks glowingly about the 1948 national title. We revere the 1978 team. Many people in Kentucky think the 1996 team was the best ten players to walk on the court at the same time. Hang two banners in Rupp Arena and you're king. Hang two in Florida and half the gym is empty two years later.
March 26, 200917 yr Author To the fans? Absolutely. The people in Florida are only talking about that football title. I am sure he does not coach for the fans. So you think that it would mean more to him?
March 26, 200917 yr To the fans? Absolutely. The people in Florida are only talking about that football title. :thumb: I don't even think this is being a "homer." Does Notre Dame care more about a football title or a basketball title? Same thing in my opinion.

March 26, 200917 yr Pancake... Why did Roy Williams go to UNC? Why did Tom Cream go to IU? Why did Ben Howland go to UCLA? Should I go on?
March 26, 200917 yr I am sure he does not coach for the fans. So you think that it would mean more to him? He sure as heck would feel more appreciated.
