Sounds like a great game with a lot of energy. I will certainly give credit where due and it sounds as if Boone put up a nice win, congrats to the Rebels ! It's a shame when some cannot just accept that teams are not invincible......... let's not forget that they are kids, last time I checked they don't always do what you want! Maybe Arnold got frustrated tonight and made a bad foul......don't think that makes him a bad kid. Maybe Riley got frustrated and shoved Lother in the Highlands game...it happens, don't mean he is a bad kid. But please don't continue to make excuses for kids playing a game and making mistakes. If one thing should be obvious by now, you cannot sit on here and unequivocally dismiss the possibility that even GOOD teams will lose. Stating all year that Holmes won't lose in the 9th region all year and "it's Holmes and a big drop off with the rest of the region" rings hollow now. The top three most of the year: Boone beats Holmes, Highlands beats Boone, Holmes beats Highlands...........doesn't sound like a big drop off to me. I don't want to hear about last year, this is three different teams and it is 2009. I for one am excited to see the region played out at BOK center........should be fun to watch these kids compete. Good luck to all of them, I'll move on to Rupp and root for the winner.

Sorry Bulldog fans,had to run to work after the game. I see the whole state bashing. :idunno: I don't know why, Holmes still has one of the best records in the state if not the best. So they have been playing flat. Boone was the better team tonite. You know what Campbell might take them. :lol:I like all the replies on how some of you wasn't impressed, this was my first time seeing Holmes. :ohbrother: 24 other games and they don't have an offense. Agree with everything, although I feel like Highlands is pushing it. An argument can be made for Boone, but not Highlands. They are a solid 9th region team in a weak 9th region. They aren't top 15.

Yeah, Boone wasn't running down and jacking up quick shots, but neither was Holmes. Holmes did nothing to push the pace of the game until about 2-3 minutes to go in the contest when they finally started utilizing their superior athleticism with a full-court trapping defense.

 

Does Henley even employ an offensive scheme? There were 5-6 possessions on the night where Holmes simply passed the ball around the perimeter for 40+ seconds without making a single pick or cut. Still not sure I ever saw any possessions resembling any type of offensive execution. 90% of their offense was simply penetrating and either taking it up or kicking it out for a shot.

 

Boone, conversely, had purpose in their halfcourt sets and executed them very well; getting open look after open look on baseline screens and UCLA cuts. Gabbard controlled the ball very well against Holmes' pressure.

 

Yeah, Boone flourished in the halfcourt game, but they didn't "stall" it anymore than Holmes did- that's a homer excuse. "Stalling" the ball is running the ole Dean Smith 4 corners or just dribble and kicking it out all night while passing on open looks, Boone did none of that.

 

Boone simply played with poise and out executed Holmes. End of story.

Don't be too quick to write off Mr. Henley. Do you think that 2 weeks prior to the tournament that a coach is going to show things that he may be planning to use when all the marbles are on the line? I believe his record stands for itself and I would not be so sure that he doesn't know what he is doing. If you have followed Holmes the last few weeks you would know that he hasn't been exactly happy with their performance in most of the games. While he doesn't have any direct control over how his players perform he can set the tempo and style of play that he chooses to by the sets he does run. Maybe he is dumb as a fox!!

Just to interrupt the tension. Boone's JV also won 54 to 42. Good night for the Rebels all around, regardless of what everyone thinks will happen in the future.

A few thoughts.

 

Gabbard got our player of the game. Excellent floor game on offense and really frustrated Riley on the other end. He stepped up big time, and while McFarland will get the ink, I think Gabbard impacted the game at least an equal amount.

 

Rico has to fill the Arez Henderson role in a lot more ways that natural ability. His team desperately needed him to lead tonight and he didn't step up. And yes you can lead in many more ways than points. Pull them together when play stops, step up when someone gets injured and so on. Talent isn't his issue. Intangibles are.

 

If I was Wright State or someone similar to that level of D1, I'd be taking a hard look at McFarland. He's a basketball player to the core. It was nice to see him have a game like this on a big stage. I'm interested to see if it spring boards him in the post season.

But anyways, I understand your'e a Highlands fan, and I respect that, and I won't get too into it, because I know how it hits nerves for some, but having seen Highlands play multiple times now, I stand by my assertion that Highlands is not a top 15 team.

See Scott Co and Franklin Co. They have just as much size as Princeton and Holmes beat them with Pittman dominating in the post.

 

 

Do not know much about the Franklin Co. game, but I remember Riley winning the game for them against Scott Co. and them playing a very up tempo game which suits Pittman very well compared to other big men. IMO Princeton would beat any team in KY by 10 plus points. I've seen them play three times and the Orlando Williams kid is much much better than any point guard I've seen play around here. Not to mention their big boys are BIG boys not just height wise but in bulk too. I just don't think at this stage they can be considered a top team in the nation. However, if they go on to win out for the season and bring the state championship home in a domineering fashion, then I would definitely reconsider my stance.

I agree, you can not blame the officials in this one. The only call I will disagee with is the Technical foul on Arnold, Holmes cut the lead to 6 he was making a play on the ball, they both stumbled out of bounds and feet got tangled. The kid from boone fell, next thing you know a T is called. It was called because of Arnold's rep because there was nothing flagrant about what happened and he wasn't trying to hurt anyone.

I can see where you may be coming from and I typically dont wear (Eta) goggles LOL. There have been games I have seen them where they didnt look like a Top 15 team. However, there have been big games against top teams in the state where they did show they belonged. But I can respect your opinion. :thumb:

We said Elliott had a bad day and didnt shoot well from perimeter when thay lost to Shelby Valley and that was no excuse!!
