Chappie is also a very fine ref. Really gets into the game with his calls and is very entertaining, while effective.

Good one.:laugh: I think Sat. instead of a JV game before Elliott and Ballard game. Maybe Dale could play Eta Rho one on one instead.:laugh: Maybe even use some of the smiles they use.:taz:(Dale):ylsuper:(Eta Rho) as uniforms.

Congrats to the Rebels. They had a game plan and executed it well. I sure didn't think they could pull it off. I've been a Holmes supporter all year and I don't believe that a loss is necessarily a good thing. Superior teams take care of business and they didn't. Maybe Holmes is a little over-rated and Boone is highly under-rated. However, I do believe that if they meet on down the road, Holmes will win (as long as Pittman is healthy) because they've been there before and know how to win at crunch time.

Boone gave him that chance when they tried to slow down the 4th Q tonight and IMO he left it on the floor. That was a situation Arez took over and pulled them through. Time for Rico to make that leap IMO...

Arnold is a sophomore...Mcfarland is a senior. So your comment about Mcfarland being 5 times the player of Arnold holds little merit. And the tech. called on him was horrible...both he and Mcfarland were running for the ball, Mcfarland stopped to shield Arnold from going for the ball and Arnold couldn't slow down in time to keep from running in to him. It wasn't a shove as you proclaim.

 

That's exactly my point. The kid needs to be taught some respect. You don't run your mouth to one of the better players in the region when he hasn't proven ANYTHING other than he is prone to getting technicals. He deliberately shoved him. IMO R. Johnson is the only one on this team who is mature enough to lead them to greatness. Hopefully he steps up sooner than later.

One bad game doesn't erase the quality wins that Holmes has posted throughout the season. That being said, this isn't totally unexpected because Holmes (judging by scores, at least) seems to have a tendency to play to their level of competition at times.

 

That is a habit that often requires an upset loss to rectify.

Though I agree that fans of these two teams battle a lot here, I dont believe the majority of these posts are from Elliott fans.

Great win by Boone - but GT gets it right. Holmes has flaws, and I think they have been exposed. They need an 09 version of Arrez for at least three reasons:

1. Even though he was a lock down defensive stopper, when they needed a late game bucket he was there (in particular, the District finals against CovCath - 29 points I think by posting up bigger guys - they absolutely do not win that game without him).

2. His intensity on the defensive end was infectious. I haven't seen it to that degree this year in the games I've seen.

3. His demeanor - the Holmes kids were lauded for their composure last year, particularly in the Paintsville game which got VERY UGLY at the end when Paintsville knew their season was coming to an end. Could have very easily turned into a major fracas, but Holmes turned the other cheek and walked off with a W. This year, with all the trash talking and T's, is obviously a much different situation. Last year I think Holmes reflected the cool composure of Arrez - I see that missing now.

 

There are two guys that can help Holmes pull things together IMO - Dave Henley and Rico Johnson. I hope Rico develops the leadership qualities to match his remarkable physical gifts, and I hope Henley recognizes the need to pull the reins in a little on the stupid, unnecessary conduct that leads to technical fouls.

 

Got way off the thread here - sorry - because it was a great win for an underrated (IMO) Boone squad. If Holmes doesn't take any lessons away from this loss, and continues to play with inconsistent intensity and make silly, immature (to be kind) mistakes, they may not see the floor at Rupp.
