the mathemagician
If you could read my mind, love What a tale my thoughts could tell Just like an old time movie Bout a ghost from a wishin' well In a castle dark with a fortress strong With chains upon my feet You know that ghost is me And I will never be set free As long as I'm a ghost that you can't see If I could read your mind, love What a tale your thoughts could tell Just like a paperback novel The kind that drugstores sell When you reach the part when the heartaches come The hero would be me But heroes often fail And you won't read that book again Because the ending's just too hard to take I'd walk away like a movie star Who gets burned in a three-way script Enter number two A movie queen to play the scene Of bringing all the good things out in me But for now, love, let's be real I never thought I could act this way And I've got to say that I just don't get it I don't know where we went wrong But the feelin's gone And I just can't get it back If you could read my mind, love What a tale my thoughts could tell Just like an old time movie Bout a ghost from a wishin' well In a castle dark or a fortress strong With chains upon my feet But stories always end And if you read between the lines You'll know that I'm just tryin' to understand The feelings that you lack I never thought I could feel this way And I've got to say that I just don't get it I don't know where we went wrong But the feelin's gone And I just can't get it back If You could Read My Mind --- Gordon Lightfoot

owsleyking
While reading the other thread about Father's Day, I was struck and very moved by the folks on here who have already lost your fathers. It made me very thankful that I still have my old man, even though he isn't well. I want to send out this wonderful Dan Fogelberg song in honor of all of your fathers and in memory of all of your dear dads who have passed on. Dan wrote this song as a tribute to his own father, who was a band leader. He speaks shortly about his relationship with his dad at the end of song. This one's for all of your dads. If he is still with you, hug him tomorrow and tell him how much you love him. Thanks, math!!
STRIKE3
Gordon Lightfoot, had the ability to tell stories, but translated into a song.

This has always been my favorite Gordon Lightfoot song....and the last one he did the one time I got to see him. Hope his health gets better so he can give us some more music! owsleyking
This Michael Nesmith song helped make Linda Ronstadt famous...a nice tribute to one of my favorite songwriters.
oldrambler
Dan Folgelberg was one of my very favorites, I really admired his songwriting and the way that he deliverd the song.My favorite Folgelberg song..... Leader of the Band (thanks math for the reminder, very emotional song for me) "My life has been a poor attempt to imitate the man", I still think of this line of the song when I think about my Dad. The Professor
Owsleyking, what are some other songs Nesmith wrote? I always associated him with the Monkees fad thing. I didn't realize he was a prolific song writer. But I don't keep up with that kind of stuff.

I didn't realize he was a prolific song writer. But I don't keep up with that kind of stuff. He's really known more for his work in video and film now. His work in the video field actually helped spawn MTV in it's early years with his video compilation Elephant Parts (he produced a couple of Lionel Ritchie videos)...he owns Pacific arts studeos which have produced several cult classics (Repo Man and Time Rider, which George Harrison helped with the music score). I like his music, however. He really has never been a top ten hit maker(you know me...always been a bigger fan of the B-side than the hits:cool:),but his lyrics contain a lot of hook-lines,humor and innuendo that make you think. I'll let you listen to Magnetic South and Infinite Rider on the Big Dogma (my 2 favorite albums) sometime.

the mathemagician
Zevon also contributed some material for Ronstadt. She recorded "Poor, Poor Pitiful Me" along with "Carmelita." Here's a real sweet treat for Zevon fans-- "Poor, Poor Pitiful Me" along with a spirited rendition of Springsteen's "Cadillac Ranch". This is sweet...
