Rebuild The Reds Part II

Featured Replies

At the end of the day Banana Bob is going to have to push things to about 90 million next year if he is serious about winning now. And even that is going to be a huge risk.

By the way, who is on the road evaluating what the Reds can get in return? Might have to put that one in CTR's ear...

I'd keep Weathers Lincoln and Affeldt at this point... Maybe Hairston and one of the catchers...

I would think you keep Bako so he can continue working with Voltron and Cueto

Bako is 350 years old... Well 35, still nothing to rebuild with.

I know the thread title says rebuild but you still have to build the pitchers and if that means you have to keep Bako around for another year or two while developing another catcher then so be it.

Can anyone say Crash Davis?

But the veterans under contract for next year all get good raises, so the Reds are on the hook for $46.5 million for six players:

Bronson Arroyo $9.5 million

Francisco Cordero $12 million

Aaron Harang $11 million

Brandon Phillips $4.75 million

Ryan Freel $4 million

Alex Gonzalez $5.375 million

And then you add in the young guys contracts and maybe the Ross option. And the Junior buyout if he isn't traded...

Is BP one of the best bargins in baseball?

You keep Cordero, Harang & Phillips. Get rid of Freel, Gonzalez & Bronson.

I think we need to re-sign Dunn now. Let's lock him up and see what we can do. If nothing else, Dunn will always have trade value thanks to his power. He still has a lot of years left to play...whether it be in outfield, at DH or at first.

It pains me to say it, but Ken Griffey Jr. needs to go. I'm a huge Griffey fan, but his contract is going to be too much for the Reds to handle. That is unless Junior is willing to take less to stay in Cincinnati.

I would re-sign Corey Patterson and Jeremy Affeldt. Keep Mike Lincoln too.

You've got to keep the young core of this team:

Harang

Cueto

Volquez

Bailey

Phillips

Votto

Bruce

And it'd be nice to keep Dunn, Patterson & Keppinger. If we can keep E-5, then great. If not, adios.

So all they need is a catcher?

Can anyone say Crash Davis?

"Relax, all right? Don't try to strike everybody out. Strikeouts are boring! Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic."

Dunn needs to go ... I know he is a powerful hitter ( when and if he connects) so is he really worth keeping ? Look at his strikeout % compared to his actual hitting stats and I think use him as trade bait. We got to start somewhere.

I agree with much of this statement.

That core sure is something to be excited about.

I could be wrong but that is completely different, when inducted to the Hall you can pick which team you want to go in under. This doesn't mean you are playing for this team at the time of retirement..

Correct me if I'm wrong.

^ Thats right.

Though so.

When did they change this rule? Roger Clemens talked about boycotting the HOF a few years back if he didn't go in as a Yankee. I'm pretty sure the HOF decides which team you go in with.

I honestly have no idea thats why I asked to be corrected if anyone knew for sure. I was always under the impression that the player could pick.

The player decides ...
