May 9, 200818 yr But the veterans under contract for next year all get good raises, so the Reds are on the hook for $46.5 million for six players: Bronson Arroyo $9.5 million Francisco Cordero $12 million Aaron Harang $11 million Brandon Phillips $4.75 million Ryan Freel $4 million Alex Gonzalez $5.375 million And then you add in the young guys contracts and maybe the Ross option. And the Junior buyout if he isn't traded... Which is why I added my next post. :lol: But thanks for the info nonetheless. :thumb:

They could end up with 10 guys returning from this roster, and be paying close to the 70 million they are at now with numerous spots to fill. Doesn't sound like much of a recipe for success...

I'm sure they can find a GM stupid enough to make a trade where the Reds don't have to send money along. I understand they can't just eat 40 million dollars in contracts, but they can't continue to put this product on the field either. With that said, I'm not sure how any of us would react if they start putting a winning product on the field. :lol:

I could be wrong but that is completely different, when inducted to the Hall you can pick which team you want to go in under. This doesn't mean you are playing for this team at the time of retirement.. Correct me if I'm wrong.

May 9, 200818 yr There has been some talk of the Reds exploring a trade that gets Griffey back to Seattle, but you have to wonder if it's just speculation or something that really might happen. I have to think that is just speculation at this point. I really think it is going to be difficult for the Reds to trade Griffey at all unless one of the serious World Series contenders suffers a major injury in their outfield. My reasoning behind that is this: You know that Griffey is going to want his option for next season to be picked up by the team that is trading for him because no way he gets $16.5 Million as a free agent this winter. The only way that he might not press the issue is if he's traded to a serious contender and I just don't think Seattle is a serious contender, nor will they be next season. If he doesn't get to go to a big time contender financially it would make better sense for him to take the $4 Million buyout from the Reds and put that with the $8-10 Million he'll get from Seattle (or someone else) next season.
