These two programs are currently very close.

I'll ask you the same thing I asked GT. Do you really think that Mitch is more concerned about ticking off the UofL faithful than doing what he thinks is best of the UK football program? I can understand you not liking what Mitch said or did, but let's get real here.

 

Secondly, UK has all summer to get ready for Uof L. They would have only 4 days to try to recover from any injuries they suffer in the UofL game.

 

UK was not even notified about the proposal to switch the game to Monday until this week. It was presumed to be on Sunday.

UL is making this out to be an ESPN issue, that ESPN has proposed the Monday date. UL choose the date beyond the confines of the stated contract, which is Thursday through Sunday.

Bottom line, UL can't do a Saturday or Sunday game or has chosen not to, because of the silly two day Ironman Marathon.

Then they go running to the media...

This is a UL doing, not an ESPN doing.

Here are my thoughts on this.

 

Mitch doesn't want to schedule this game on one of the biggest nights for football because he is afraid that Kentucky will get beaten, badly. If that were to happen with a national audience and a lot of hopeful recruits, it would hurt the program, somewhat. I really think that the game would be a good game. Both teams would be competitive. Mitch needs to put faith into the football program and let Brooks decide.

My thing is this, UK can schedule it for when they want when it is at UK but UL can't when it is at UL? :confused:

I'm sick of the silliness. Just part ways and be done with it. I'd gladly give up the pettiness and headaches. Especially with Memphis St. back on the schedule in future seasons.

 

LRCW: I'll bite. I do think Barnhart does many of the things he does in order to get under UofL's skin, including this one. I think he is simply answering to the multitude of big-money UK boosters out there who are just petty enough to not care whether UK is ever any good in football, just as long as UofL is inconvenienced/irritated. He knows, just like the boosters, that UK can't realistically aspire to anything more in football than that. At least, not without a change in philosophy away from the Rupp days of basketball ruling the roost at the expense of everything else.

 

And to whine that there is concern about the short week is ridiculous, at best. If UK's recruiting is in that bad a shape that they can't handle Norfolk St., then they should just opt out of the SEC and join C-USA for football just like they are in soccer.

To add: I think the UK hoops deal with WHAS is another example of Barnhart acting in the interest of boosters/bragging rights. UK did not need to be on WHAS; UK games are already carried statewide in every small town in the state via local stations and can be picked up with the weakest of antennae. The only reason to get the preferred slot on WHAS was to undercut UofL's efforts at broadening the fan base.

It's as simple as this IMO. UK wants no part of playing UL on big stage national TV. Just say it, and move on...

It is what it is. It's a contest that nobody wants to look like little brother and they want it their way or no way. I don't think anybody wants a short week and that is understandable but it's Norfolk Southern! It's pretty simple, both programs want to act like they are the one in control.

If we learned anything last year, its that exposure will come to good football teams regardless. If you deserve it, you will get on national TV like UK did on a couple of occasions last year. If you dont deserve it, who cares? Do you really want to be on national TV if you arent really deserving it and in a position to get run off the field? Mitch is right in this case, especially with this UK team for next year.

 

So Kentucky isn't deserving? I think UK is very deserving.

Even then, Louisville can't really do Sunday due to the Ironman being here, it goes right by the stadium/.

The reason for wanting to be on WHAS is that it reaches 40 states at night.It had nothing to do with statewide coverage.

I'm sure you were really thrilled that UK won, and for the record Louisville is 4-2 in the last 6 games played.

I'm lost here. Last year the first Sunday was just a tremendous time slot and UK was stupid for moving the game. Now Sunday is not a great slot, what happened ? Does the Ironman run thru the stadium are they running when people would be arriving for the game? Sounds like UL is less important to the city of Louisville than an ironman competition. Hasn't this game been scheduled for years ?
