February 27, 200818 yr UK was not even notified about the proposal to switch the game to Monday until this week. It was presumed to be on Sunday. UL is making this out to be an ESPN issue, that ESPN has proposed the Monday date. UL choose the date beyond the confines of the stated contract, which is Thursday through Sunday. Bottom line, UL can't do a Saturday or Sunday game or has chosen not to, because of the silly two day Ironman Marathon. Then they go running to the media... This is a UL doing, not an ESPN doing. If the above is true, UL is to blame just as much as UK.
February 27, 200818 yr I'm not so sure about that. A lot of people plan cookouts, and are outdoors on Labor Day. There could be fewer people watching. That may be somewhat true. If there is a great rivalry game on on Labor Day, I'll be watching it.

I still feel that they are in the national power landscape, but that's a different story, and an argument that won't have legs again, until they win. February 27, 200818 yr Author I do not follow UL close enough to know but do you guys really think they are going to be good enough next year that UK is afraid to play them on National TV on Monday Night for fear of a beating. They seemed to lose a lot of good players from this years team that frankly wasnt that good. For a team "that frankly wasn't that good", they were a blown coverage away from taking down the 2 time Music City Bowl Champs...that said Louisville was a highly talented team last year, that really fought everything that seemed could go wrong. I don't look for that to happen in back to back seasons. I feel this Louisville team will be ranked by season's end.

February 27, 200818 yr Author The standard rule of thumb is that the only game on (aka Thursday U of L game, or said Monday night game) will get better ratings than any of the other games of that weekend. Of course a big LSU -vs- Florida, or UM -vs- OSU, etc....will get huge ratings, but if UK were to play in this Monday night game, unless UK was undefeated at season's end, there wouldn't be a game that they play in the rest of the season, that would have nearly as good of a rating.
February 27, 200818 yr Author .500 overall and a losing conference record = national power? Read my post again, CAREFULLY....I do think that they are still in the argument...every program has a hiccup. I believe that the 2006 season was an anomoly, we'll find out in time.

I am no discrediting UL's accomplishments, but of a lot more importance (not that the TV coverage was not important), they were brought into an 8 team BCS league.
February 27, 200818 yr Author ^ They have won 3 straight BCS bowls.....that's pretty darned strong. I know you may not want to agree with it....they have beaten the SEC's Best, the ACC's best, and the Big XII's best in back to back to back years.
