I started thinking about this again today, and am still baffled at the excuse that Mitch gave. He said that he doesn't want to put his team on a short week against Norfolk State...while I think that's an absolute joke, and a blatant lie. It is, what it is. The reality is even more of a spit in the face of U of L. Mitch is basically saying that he needs one more day to get ready for Norfolk, but one LESS day to get ready for the 'Ville.....heck Tom, put it on Thursday, that way the Cats have four extra days to get ready for the juggernaut that is Norfolk.

Didn't UL call UK and ask if it was okay? And now Mitch is at fault for giving his opinion on the matter when he was asked about the matter? Did you just want a rubber stamp?

I am baffled simply because it is sad that a bunch of grown men are acting like they are in middle school.

 

Bottom line, Mitch (UK) want to make UL angry, and they have done that. I would rather them just say that.

 

That Monday night slot is a pretty coveted one. It stinks playing on a short week, we all realize that and probably not the best of times to be coming off of a short week that early in the season with some inexperienced players; but, there are some opportunities you just don't pass up.

 

Last season, while I disagreed with UK's decision, you could somewhat rationalize and it paid off. This is totally different.

 

That Monday night slot is a pretty coveted one. It stinks playing on a short week, we all realize that and probably not the best of times to be coming off of a short week that early in the season with some inexperienced players; but, there are some opportunities you just don't pass up.

They need it just as much as UL to build national recognition and legitimacy. Some national broadcasts you could pass on because they may not do much for your program. I am sorry UL guy, while playing Utah on a Friday night is nice, I do not think anything was gained or lost playing at that time, regardless of the outcome.

 

Missing out on the warm-up Monday Night Football telecast is reserved for few and far in between. Kids may not grow up dreaming about playing for UK or UL, but they do dream about playing on Monday nights during primetime.

Only if it's NBC offering the Sunday night slot, which they are not. The Sunday afternoon slot on ESPN would still be solid, but not as good...

Well let's see....yes, they are in the SEC, but they aren't THE SEC....being the tenth best recruiting team in teh conference is not good. The Big East does their schedules so that they get talked about all the way to the end. The SEC gets talked about as well....but by late in the season it is 2-3 teams, just like the rest of the conferences. U of L just so happens to, more often than not, be in those discussions.

Even then, Louisville can't really do Sunday due to the Ironman being here, it goes right by the stadium/.

So, is going from solid to good worth losing a day and running the risk of a rebuilding team playing Norfolk State. If it was a returning senior-laden team, then the decision holds less merit. But at this point, how good is UK going to be? That is an unknown and as an AD you don't want to put a possible stumbling block in front of your football coach.

 

Let's say that Mitch never expressed any concern and a rebuilding UK loses to UL and then loses to Norfolk State. Imagine the cries for Mitch's job for agreeing to that scheduling mess if that was to occur?
