Based on some of the comments I have see from players when they do the short (fun) interviews I was really surprised they edited mine and let the the others go.

I think that we would've won by 2-3 scores. We had way too much depth, and pure speed from 5 specialists...in a 48 minute game we would've been too much this past season.

 

I really think that is what made this HHS team different than in the past. They had quality depth at every position. In years past they had quality depth at a couple of positions, mostly skilled.

 

If we're talking speed, HHS hangs around...

The thread about ranking the 2007 state champions got me thinking... how would a game (on a neutral site) between 2007 Trinity and 2007 Highlands have gone? Specifically, consider if they had played at the end of the year. Would it be close? Who would have the edge? What would the keys to the game have been for each team?

 

Highlands was a great team last year. I only saw them 3 times, but I think they would have a hard time stopping Trinity.

I think that Highlands played and executed their game plan better than any other team in the state.

 

Now compaing them to Trinity is different. It's like compaing a 1AA team to a 1A team in college. As app state proved anything can happen.

Highlands would of hung with Trinity for the 1st 2 quarters as they have shown in the past time and time again with any much larger school. Highlands wouldn't have run out of gas, it just doesn't happen. But the numbers would of taken over. This is probably a 14 point ballgame not because of Trinity's ability to take care of the ball. But Highlands inability to get it done on special teams. Not enough depth!!!! IMO

JB, with all respect I chuckle when I read these type of threads because any one that makes "absolute" predictions is being sort of silly. Its impossible to know what team would win a one game matchup.

 

And while I generally agree that depth comes into play when a school with 400 boys is playing a school with 1200 boys, in my opinion depth would not have been quite the usual factor in a matchup of the 07 teams. We only consistently played three players both ways (Ball, Hurtt and Stein) and that was only part time. We had great depth at the lber and defensive line positions (which would be key positions in a match up with Trinity due to the need to keep pressure on the qb). While we were thin on the O line depthwise, due to the type of o linemen we use (smaller, well conditioned players) I don't think fatigue would have been a factor there. We had great depth at the running back position also.

 

I have a tendency to listen to good coaches that played both teams. Wallace of BG stated that he thought it would be a toss up if the two played. Trinity had a better O but Highlands had a better D. But who knows.

^ The problem with Wallace is that he played us game one, and you game 15....that's quite a difference, Guru has to be one of the best judges for this, in that he saw both, numerous times.

I wouldn't relie on just guru's opinion about the game, he thinks Beechwood is better than Highlands!!!

Highlands by 7-10. They were not going to be denied this year.

Give me the Rocks.... probably by 10-17 points.
