January 29, 200818 yr You are my new HERO! LBBC has a great idea, have you went any further with this ? Post a new thread if you would and see who folks think would join open class and how they think this may work. I know that the KHSAA folks take a quick peep @ this on occasion.
January 29, 200818 yr I understand that. Privates will never accept boundaries, so they would stay in the open class, I believe all privates would. So others could join them so they would have enough to play.It would be interesting to see who would elect to join them. I think that it is a wonderful plan, the more I look at it and think about it.:thumb: I don't think that's totally correct about the private not ever accepting boundaries. If my memory is correct (and it may not be), I think the privates were willing to accept boundaries when the KHSAA's task force was trying to find a compromise acceptable to both groups.

If my memory is correct (and it may not be), I think the privates were willing to accept boundaries when the KHSAA's task force was trying to find a compromise acceptable to both groups. A Louisville-based private school admin indicated they could live with defined boundries. It was not universal support. Boundries are a red herring anyway. Distance from the school is a self limiting factor. Anyone who thinks self transportation to school is not an issue has clearly not had to do it. It is costly and time consuming. The farther away, the more costly and time consuming for parents and kids a like. I recall a comment from some entity after Prop-2 was ruled down that the legislators made it clear that anything limiting participation was not supported.

You may be right. I'm just looking back at post and most say that they will continue to serve their areas. You look at Lex Cath and they serve all the way to Middlesboro. Many have said, on here, that they will continue to do that. I don't know that for a fact. I just think that the private schools would remain open, especially the football playing ones.

Bell, you are partially correct. The Diocese of Lexington does include churches and schools in most of the eastern half of Kentucky. However, the effective area from which students are drawn is much smaller. I think there is zero probability for a student at St Julian in Middlesboro making the nearly 3 hour trip each way to and from school on a daily basis to attend LexCath for high school. I think it's safe to say that Bell Co. won't be losing any players to LexCath. In fact, several players from LexCath's middle school team from last year did not make the transition to the LC high school team due to the travel considerations. The public schools in Franklin and Scott counties gained some pretty good players. The actual feeder area for LexCath students remains Fayette and surrounding counties.
January 30, 200818 yr Will there be a forthcoming cartoon concerning J-town illegally recruiting a player from another school? J-Town sanctioned for illegal recruiting.

January 30, 200818 yr Im gonna skip past a lot of the comments here because after the first page of comments I have a general idea of where most people's minds are on this subject. I think what is frustrating about this cartoon and other things is that they suggest Lex Cath for instance paid for their state championships. Unless somebody on this site has ironclad proof that Lex Cath actually illegally recruited or paid players to go to their school and play on their lists of State Championships then I think this cartoon is pretty off base. Now the claim will come from a lot of people on here that didn't the KHSAA find that Lex Cath had violated certain rules in inappropriately providing student-athletes with financial aid. And the answer is yes they did. However, in looking at games Lex Cath was forced to forfeit from their seasons of football and girl's basketball many of the seasons were in the first few years of the 00's. Second, while what Lex Cath did wasn't right, from the list of players I know who were involved in Lex Cath's violations, none had an impact with the team usually. The ones I know of were already attending the school or had made the decision to attend the school and after extreniuating circumstances such as a parent's untimely death, house burning down, family situations, etc. the school offered financial aid from a fund they had set up that exceeded what the student was initially entitiled to. (meaning in one or two cases that a student might have initially not needed financial aid but over the course of their time at Catholic a financial disaster on their family such as a house burning down suddenly meant the family's financial situation had changed). The KHSAA as far as I can remember from Lex Cath's case, never found anything to suggest the school had used the financial aid as a means to recruit a student to their school for the purpose of athletics. As I stated in this rant, a few of the students invovled were already at the school a year or more before they recieved any aid. Furthermore, I have not heard of student-athletes such as Chelsea Chowning, John Logan, Jacob Doss, Justin Burke, William Graham, Demetrius Green, Harrison Morton, Sarah Schell, Shane Israel, Winston Guy, Cornell Burbage, or others who attributed to some of the school's great records be included in what Lex Cath did wrong. The school made a mistake that it paid for and admitted it had done wrong. It offered financial aid without properly filling out paperwork to the right authorities notifying them of the actions. It was an oversight that ultimately led to some of the people in charge at the school getting the axe or getting in trouble. It was a black mark to the school which has led many people to assume every athlete with an inkling of talent must have been recruited to play there and recieved financial aide. Still, I find that things like this cartoon suggest that the accomplishments the athletes of the school had during their playing time were tainted and nothing more then straight up cheating. As an alum and former football player of Lexington Catholic, to think that in the four years I played at the school from 99-02 our record of 45-7 was anything less then earned by us the players is frustrating. I'd say people involved in all those Girl's Basketball State Championships, Football titles, the Baseball titles, Soccer accomplishments, whatever would agree. They were earned and we fought hard to acheive them. If a bunch of adults whose only involvement in this entire situation is to sit and poke fun at a school while hiding behind the claim they are only being general, cute, petty and simply stating a well known assumption across the state. I guess that is their perogative. However, those people don't even have the slightest inkling to what went on or how hard any of these people worked to accomplish what they have accomplished. Just because US people at Lex Cath sit here in our "million dollar homes" being spoon fed all the endless opportunities laid out to us, we could hardly have actually earned any of this fairly. I cannot comment on LCA because I am nowhere near close the situation and most of what I know is hear say from reliable sources but is simply gonna be left at hear say. I know the family of one starter on the Girl's bball team and I'm certain she wasn't paid inappropriate aide to attend the school, just as her brother is pretty certain most if not all the other players are also legitametely at the school of their own choosing. Is this cartoon any more accurate to claim last year's State Championship was simply bought??
January 30, 200818 yr To add to my rant, I don't wanna come off as claiming what Lex Cath or LCA did was right. I don't think anyone wants to see athletes simply getting paid a free way into a high school that everyone else is paying for simply so they can play athletics. I do think however that some of the claims people have made here on BGP in the past have been off base or uninformed at best. Lex Cath didn't run out and start asking every great player in a hundred mile radius of the school to simply leave their designated public school and come to ours. The records simply don't support that, and the amount of great players around the city of Lexington and surrounding counties doesn't support that.

How many times will the term OVERSITE or MISTAKE be valid before a punishment comes down on a school that coincides with the rules that they violated. Giving a player illegal aid to come to a school is paying them to play, and it is one of the most gross forms of cheating that can occur at the High School Level.
January 30, 200818 yr Will there be a forthcoming cartoon concerning J-town illegally recruiting a player from another school? J-Town sanctioned for illegal recruiting. What is your point All Tell? A cheater is a cheater. Until the punishment starts to fit the crime, I am sure that it will continue to happen.
January 30, 200818 yr Not really. As a former (and recovering:rolleyes:) artist myself, he should have signed the strip itself. Not doing so, he knew it could, and likely would be picked up by others without the accompanying credits because they weren't part of the actual strip. BTW, I'm not one calling for his head, just pointing this out. Yes Really, I know Steve and first and foremost he is a good man and a good Sports Editor. I saw the cartoon in its original form in the newspaper and knew immediately who drew it. He is not a cartoonist, so OK his signature was not in the drawing itself, however it was clearly labled. I thought it was funny, a little harsh, but funny. It was a cartoon for cryin out loud. As far as the Public/Private issue and in particular with Mr. Sears at Somerset, I think people who live in glass houses should not throw stones. In an interview, I asked Mr Sears about the double standards (public/private) when it comes to recruiting at the high school level. His response was that we can only deal with one problem at a time. That we need to start somewhere. That's when the old cliche about glass houses came to mind.
