February 4, 200818 yr As I mentioned if a school in Jefferson County could draw from ALL of Jefferson County, I would not consider them closed. They would have to be limited to the neighborhood they reside. If they draw outside of the neighborhood, they are open. So, if Manual wanted to draw from all parts of Jefferson County that is great that they are willing to serve all of Jefferson County.:thumb:They have now chosen to compete in the open division. Butler chooses to ONLY draw from the neighborhood that they are in and they are closed division. I got ya. :thumb: Should we assume most boundaries for the closed division will be similar in population as well?
February 4, 200818 yr I got ya. :thumb: Should we assume most boundaries for the closed division will be similar in population as well? No. No way to accomplish that. For example, Harrison and Mason County would be closed at it's county boundaries. Deming same way with Robertson County. But those two are distinctly different in population. But the tradeoff could be with the Class A state tournament and Deming competing there.
February 4, 200818 yr I guess you feel like Ryle was a failure when they lost in the championship game.
Yes. So, you think a school that might not have ever had a winning season but this one year has a magical run and makes the playoffs and then evens wins a game has had a failure of the year because they didn't bring home a state tournament trophy...?
Yes. That is the attitude that has ruined sports.
No, it's the attitude that creates tradition. Where the true measure of success in HS athletics is the quality individuals it puts out and NOT the championships it wins.
Some schools, and some teams strive for both. These goals are not mutually exclusive. Like he said, if at the end of his career all he has done in win games, than it has not been as great of a college coaching career as it could have been.
This is the type of rationalization that keeps a team from becoming more than they thought possible.
February 4, 200818 yr This is the type of rationalization that keeps a team from becoming more than they thought possible. Absolutely, not. He probably never thought that he would be taking hundreds of thousands of shoes to people in Africa that do not have shoes. But he has gathered, I think, close to half million shoes. That is doing more than he thought possible with the right mindset.

This is the type of rationalization that keeps a team from becoming more than they thought possible. For some schools those goals are mutually exclusive. For instance, those programs that over look criminal activity and still allow a kid to play that helps you win championships. I am sure that you have heard of programs that have sacrificed developing a better young man to win.
February 4, 200818 yr No public school would be caught dead joining a private school association, unless Highlands would. They would be the only ones.I believe many NKY schools would.

I would suspect the answer would be..."nothing."

February 4, 200818 yr I believe many NKY schools would. And I believe you would be majorly wrong. NKY likes to promote they are one happy front and especially the ones that win the most because of advantages. But that is far from the truth.
February 4, 200818 yr Not sure what shoes in Africa have to do with winning state tournaments. I would suspect the answer would be..."nothing." Based upon your previous comments, I would expect that answer from you and your thoughts on the matter. That coach will tell you that building quality young men that see that it is more important to help others that are in need is MORE IMPORTANT than hosting a championship trophy and then talking about it for 9 hours.

LBBC if I took it the way you meant it, that was sort of a pretty cheap shot particularly in light of the fact that Mueller took his entire family to Africa this past summer to do mission work, don't you think? Its possible for a coach to be both a great coach and a great role model. They are not mutually exclusive things.
February 5, 200818 yr ..C'mon Sarge...those CovCath losses STILL eat at you!!! I wasn't thrilled that we lost, but the fact that they were a private school didn't factor into my disappointment a bit. And I dang sure didn't think they beat us because they enjoyed some unfair advantage.
February 5, 200818 yr In high school? Yes RM, it has happened. In some specific incidents that I can think of, the athletes have went on to show their true colors at the college level as well. I guess saying anything else would be violating a rule, so I won't. Point being is that there are coaches that sacrifice their morals for victory.

As a matter of fact, Highlands can take kids from a larger area than Cov Cath due to the rules held in the Catholic organization.

Privates can offer tuition assistance to those students attending. Independents cannot offer tuition assistance.
