January 21, 200818 yr Eli has been in the NFL for a short time and has already led his team to a Superbowl... Is Eli actually better than is brother at this point in his career? If so, how good COULD he be? For what it's worth I am not a fan of either Manning.
January 21, 200818 yr Eli has done a good job "managing" the Giants this post season. But, he is not even close to being the QB that Peyton is.
January 21, 200818 yr Author Note I said at this point in his career. Forget for a second the deification by the sports media of Peyton and look at accomplishments up at the same point in Peyton's career in the NFL. I don't seem to recall Peyton leading the Colts to a Superbowl after his first few seasons.

Forget for a second the deification by the sports media of Peyton and look at accomplishments up at the same point in Peyton's career in the NFL. January 21, 200818 yr Not a particular fan of either BUT Early in Peyton's career he was playing for Jim Mora and a defense that was, to be kind, yeilding. I am less a fan of Tom Coughlin but he does know how to coach a defense. Eli has been the beneficiary of having better people around him.
January 21, 200818 yr I think it is harder to make the Superbowl in the AFC than the NFC. Payton is the best in the league, bar none.
January 21, 200818 yr Could you even have this converstation 6 weeks ago? Eli has played very well in his 3 playoff wins but lets get back to earth. Before the playoffs he was an average QB at best.
January 21, 200818 yr 1st 3 full regular season stats: Eli: 892/1608 (55.4%), 10342 YDs, 71 TDs, 55 INTs, Peyton: 1014/1679 (60.4%), 12287 YDs, 85 TDs, 58 INTs Eli fumbled more and was sacked a little more as well. Also, this is including Peyton's rookie year (which was not good) and I discarded Eli's rookie year (he only played 9 games) which would bring him down much more. The numbers are a little closer than I expected but still Eli has had a better supporting cast the past few years then Peyton did in his first 3. Pancake brings up a good point in terms of conferences as well, although Peyton's division wasn't all that good when he entered the league.

Forget for a second the deification by the sports media of Peyton and look at accomplishments up at the same point in Peyton's career in the NFL. I don't seem to recall Peyton leading the Colts to a Superbowl after his first few seasons. Peyton's still better...but, if Eli can win a Super Bowl, especially by leading his team to victory against a Patriots team making a run at history, then the argument heats up a bit, I'd say. Here are the per 16 game averages for both guys through their first four NFL seasons... Peyton - 339/557, 61%, 4105 yds, 28 TD, 20 Int Eli - 277/507, 54.7%, 3196 yds, 22 TD, 18 Int
January 21, 200818 yr Peyton, no brainer. However, that 04' QB draft class isn't looking too shabby at all. Eli, first SB; Rivers, AFC championships; Big Ben, SB victory and AFC championship; Losman has his moments. Not too shabby a class. Not the class of 83' but pretty solid.

While Eli is having a good year....he is still a sissy!:lol:
January 21, 200818 yr The stats are slightly in Peyton's favor but how much does it sway you that Eli has three playoff wins and a Super Bowl appearance and Peyton didn't. At THIS POINT in their careers, I'd say it's fairly close. We have the benefit of knowing how Peyton's career has gone several years after that point and don't know how Eli's will go from this point. Eli made some great throws yesterday and is looking more impressive every game now.
January 21, 200818 yr The notion that someone would even ask this question is absurd. They are no-where near close to each other in talent!
