Joe Bilman may be The Worst ref I have ever seen call a game!!!!!!!

That is hilarious! Sparks called a "preventive" technical foul on a 7th grader! A SEVENTH GRADER! Said he was"menacing" and "looked at him wrong!" And I saw Clark call a T at Russell 2 years ago the 1st 30 seconds of a JV game. Great officiating there! And if they're so great, why have they not been rated higher and been to the State tourney. Ask a coach before you start rating officials from the stands.

 

For your info GAL, I'm not someone rating officials from the stands. Ask an official who knows officiating before you start ranting. Coaching does not make you an expert on officiating. I'll tell you this though, you did not see Kenny Clark call a "T" on anyone at Russell 2 yrs ago because he hasn't called a JV game at Russell is probably 6 or 7 years and maybe longer than that. You may be getting him mixed up with someone else but I think if I was going to call someone out like you just did, I would at least make sure that I had the right person. About your rated higher rant, usually only 1 official makes in to the boys State Tourney each year from the NEKBOA. I guess with your theory, the other officials are horrible for not getting the call for the Sweet 16. :rolleyes::rolleyes:

Kevin Letcher does a fine job for the 10th and 11th.

He is the same person who assaulted a ref several years ago.

Having officiated Softball/Baseball 10+ years ago, I feel the need to give these basketball officials some love.

 

Basketball referees are the most scrutinized officials in high school sports period! They are under a microscope from tipoff to final buzzer. Its not an easy job. The pay doesn't take into consideration the travel, meals between jobs, and then the bashing they can take sometimes from fans and others in the gymnasium. Yet, they will return to the court at your school to do the best job they can. Bad/missed calls happen just like bad things happen in your life or at work. Successful teams and people overcome these setbacks and get better for them. I understand that some people think that certain referees make calls bad because????? But if you can't produce the proof let the official do his/her job, and if you can contact the KHSAA.

 

Yes, good officials are consistent, and I'm pretty sure that the official's organization in your area does what it can with the funds it has to make each and every official as consistent as possible. With that being said maybe the fans should shift focus to supporting your local organization of officials to help recurit and train qualified individuals?

Are you speaking of the same Cary Lyle who officiates football in the 16th Region? Works for the state at Greenbo Lake? If so, I wonder why he calls out of another area in basketball. If we're speaking of the same Cary Lyle then your compliments suit him well. He's an excellant football official who officiated the State Finals last year and while I haven't seen him call basketball, I can only assume that he's at the top level of that as well. Not only is he an excellant official but he's also a great association member who cares deeply for the future of officiating in this state. He's a tremendous asset and mentor to our football association. I have a ton of respect for the man.

I am ALMOST certain that this is the same guy! He is a complete and utter professional as a basketball official! Works the floor very well, communicates with players and coaches, enjoys the game and lets the players play!

As an 8th Region Official myself...I like to watch Terry Coldiron and Mark Howell work...I believe Steve Kellam has retired from officiating, but he was another great official that I enjoyed watching...these guys officiate without emotion, Mark is probably the best at keeping his cool...but I agree Terry Coldiron is "our best"...

 

I think Larry Boucher decides who officates what games at the State Tournnament...

The 10th and 11th region has themselves an excellant official. Any region would be lucky to have an official of his caliber.

He called one of the most biased state tournament games I've ever seen in 1999 0r 2000 (not sure of the year) when he officiated the semifinal game between Scott County and Paducah Tilghman. It was pretty bad, and he made it so obvious. I really felt sorry for the Tilghman coach and his team. They deserved to win the game, but a series of horrendous calls (imo) late in the 4th period, nearly all that went against Tilghman an nearly all made by Ashurst, doomed the Tornado. There were around 18,000 in Rupp, and I'd safely say 15,000 of them stood and booed for 15 minutes after the game was over.

 

Yea....he is somewhat on the side of confidence, but let me tell you....he is a better officials than some of the names I have seen on this post. When I used to call he was a young up and comer. Now he works some of the bigger games in the COUNTRY...not just this state. You do not get to that level without knowing what you are doing.

 

There are some very fine officials on this post. There are also ones that just worry about what LOOKS like the correct call, not what IS the correct call. The reason some officials get that "I'm bigger than the game" reputation is that those of us who called (call) what is there, not what "looks funny".

 

Someday when we can take the coaches votes out of who goes to District, Region and such, the climate may change so that the people that know who the good officials are can let them get where they belong.

 

And I think there were 20 + there that game.....

Aaaahhhh!!!!! Thats too funny. Should have been there when I played. One game I took a charge in the lane. I'm laying flat on my back, here comes the official, who standing over the top of makes the most emphatic blocking call ever. He looks at me and says "don't say it". I did. Hello bench!!:lol:
