This was a very good trade for the Reds...Don't let your like of Hamilton cloud your judgement.

 

My like of Hamilton hasn't clouded my judgement. I hope it works out for everyone. But you have to admit, Texas isn't exactly a hot bed for pitching talent.

Just to add something else to the deal. I'm wondering if him going to Texas has anything to do with Johnny Narron.

But won't ever play in the game due to injury.

 

I hate this trade as well. Hamilton hit .292 with 19 home runs and 47 RBI's in 90 games this year. He also scored 52 runs. I would much rather kept Hamilton. He is going to become a star in Major League Baseball, I think this was a dumb trade..

The Reds have Bruce in their back pocket. Hamilton is expendable. As tantalizing as he is as a talent, you just don't know how much mileage he as on him, physically and even mentally. Recovery from injury...and so on.

As little as I have read, Volquez has a sinking fastball which as hit 97 on the gun and a change in the low 80's. Pitched in the hitter friendly Texas League, and has a good GB/FB ratio...which is better than Bailey and Cueto.

 

Do we bring up Bruce, or do we sign up Mike Cameron for a year? I can dig Cameron patrolling CF.

 

Agreed we have so many players in the outfield that we may as well trade one, especially with so many question marks.

So you think its dumb to trade a player that the reds acquired for $50,000 and is clearly injury prone to improve a weakness of the team? This guy has some nasty stuff and the Reds are on the verge of having a very solid, young rotation for years to come. Its a lot easier to pick up a FA outfielder than a FA pitcher. Thats clear as day.

B/c there is a better one waiting in the wings, and the Reds sorely needed pitching.

 

I assure you, Jay Bruce will be better than Josh Hamilton.

 

With Bruce, Griffey and Dunn, Hamilton is the odd man out.

Voloquez was penciled in as the 5th starter for TX, Hamilton is now their starting CF. Time will tell how this works out.

I liked Hamilton's story as much as the next guy, but the reds simply do not need his production. The reds needed pitching and thats what they got. You have to give up talent to get talent. Look at all the prospects that were traded for Haren. Hamilton may eventually but an All-star, who knows. Volquez may very well win some Cy Youngs, who knows. Its clear that pitching is something that ever team is looking for and the Reds acquired the Rangers top prospect for someone who was expendable.
