Anybody with a Mid 90's fastball, Mid 70's change and decent curve has the ability to have a lot of success in major league baseball, especially the national league. He may not be a big name but teams were wanting an arm and a leg for one. I'm glad the reds didn't risk their future and I feel this trade actually helps the future more than it hurts. His numbers at AAA were better than Homer Bailey's last season and people were so quick to tag him the savior. Give this guy a chance. Maybe he'll be a bust and i'll eat my words, but I don't see that happening. They signed a closer this offseason, and that makes our bull pen much better, which is not really saying much. They have Bray and Burton for next year to develope and become the aces in the pen for years to come. They have Cordero and Weathers to ancor it down this season. They have Harang and Arroyo as the top 2 starters, and for the future they have Bailey, Cuerto, and Volquez. They have Dunn and Griffey for this year, and Bruce for years to come. They have Brandon Phillips, enough said, now and later also. Votto platooning with Hatteburg this year, and Votto for the future full time. I really like this trade.

December 25, 200718 yr For once, I agree with Lance: I'll take it I'm shocked..........over 3,000 votes are in.....and 2 out of every 3 fans like the Hamilton deal. I figured there would be a revolt....claims of canceling of season tickets....promises to never attend another game. I'm happy common sense won out. A team desperate for pitching......and with a surplus of OF's....traded from strength to address a weakness. Gotta trade something good to get something good. The Reds could not get what they needed by dealing Freel, or Hopper, or Jr. Dunn had protection, and rental status and big $. Now they add a starting pitcher AND create space for Jay Bruce at some point. Makes sense to me. Nobody knows how it will work out...but I'll roll the dice. Wayne parlayed a $50,000 Rule 5 claim, into 90 games worth of ML production and "feel good" pub for the team.........AND then dealt it for a top pitching prospect. What's the problem? I'm impressed....with Wayne....and the fans. The only people complaining are the ones that would have spent the entire '08 season complaining they didn't address the pitching problems if they'd kept Hamilton.
December 25, 200718 yr I'm w/ you 98. Anyone who doesn't like the trade likes the story of Hamilton and thats it. Anyone who throws a lot of ground balls and throws hard is a good pickup.
