Granted he may end up being the number 4 or 5 this season, but he could be an ace in the future. Knowing what you do about the Reds, hypothetically, would you trade Homer Bailey or Cueto and a lower level prospect for Hamilton?

Especially for a head case like Guillen. I hope Volquez does well but it just appears the Reds settled for less, considered some of the names that we mentioned.

December 24, 200718 yr Bottom line, this trade was good for both teams. The Reds get a pitcher that will be on the 40 man roster in 08, a pitcher that could be called up in 08, most likely 09, and Texas solidify's their outfield with Hamilton. On Hamilton being injury prone, this may be, but he hadn't played this much in his career. 120+ games this past season compered to about 20 or so in the last few seasons before 07. And remember that he is now on an American League team. If his hamstring does get sore again. He can always DH.

Anybody with a Mid 90's fastball, Mid 70's change and decent curve has the ability to have a lot of success in major league baseball, especially the national league. He may not be a big name but teams were wanting an arm and a leg for one. I'm glad the reds didn't risk their future and I feel this trade actually helps the future more than it hurts. His numbers at AAA were better than Homer Bailey's last season and people were so quick to tag him the savior. Give this guy a chance. Maybe he'll be a bust and i'll eat my words, but I don't see that happening.
