Is there really that many more X fans on this site than T?

 

That's an interesting question you posed...some of the more veteran posters probably could identify the X and T loyalists better than I, but by my count there are 12 definite Rock fans voting for the Rocks and 17 definite Tiger fans voting for the Tigers. I'm sure there's more than that for both sides, but if they weren't a regular poster and I couldn't tell from the screen name I didn't count them as an X or T fan.

In keeping with the boxing analogy, I've seen this "Rope-A-Dope" before. Let'em win big in the regular season; then get'em in the Championship.

 

I for one still remember the sting from two years ago when the best team in the State didn't close the deal by winning the Championship Game.

 

I remember that knot in my stomach and the struggle to fight back the tears I saw in my sons eyes, who was a sophmore at the time, when he came down that ramp with the rest of his team mates back at St. X.

 

I remember the weeks afterward when you would think about what happened and get that sick feeling all over again.

 

 

These boys have not forgotten that feeling. They have Extra Insentive to win this game. That's part of the rivalry that no-one else can understand unless you've been through it!

 

Let's all pray for no injury's and a good hard faught football game. May the best team win.

I feel for you! I know that was a tuff lose for you and the X fans. I was fortunate enough to be on the other side of the score in that Championship Game! I’m sure as happy I was watching my son celebrate on the field, you were as upset for your son! Looking forward to a great game by two quality teams. Good luck, but GO ROCKS! #18.

I don't know exactly how this will happen (I'm still working the details out in my mind), but I predict that Highlands wins this game on Saturday, making history by bringing home TWO state football titles in ONE year, one in 5A and one in 6A! Better luck next year T and X. Go 'Birds!

With all of the bad blood the last couple years, the disappointment of the injured QB and loss of the State Championship as well as the Rain shortened ¼ Game awarded to Trinity.

 

Do you think it helps the ROCKS to be labeled as the Number ONE Team in the State of Kentucky ahead of an undefeated Team that already beat you in the regular season?

 

I believe X has enough motivation, the potential for Coach’s 1st undefeated season, a potential top 10 National Ranking at the end of the season, etc.. I sure wouldn’t want my opponent hanging things like this up the week before a game.

No team should need extraneous motivation for this game. If a kid needs it, maybe it's time to find his replacement. Why does there always have to be some kind of angle?

Do you really see/think .6 of a point is some kind of mandate? Neither one of these teams need anything extra in terms of motivitation. Don't think knowledgeable folks on here what put much stock in this particular poll.

Meanwhile, back to the game.

I think fans are both sides see this as a close game. I see mistakes and turnovers playing a big part. Least amount of mistakes wins. X had 2 lost fumbles in the first game, both around the 25 of Trinity. Trinity had 1 lost fumble on a punt and an interception plus an interception on the 2 point conversion try. Trinity also had a missed PAT try. If Trinity can avoid the turnovers and negative yard plays, they can be successful. Stein has 4 of his 6 interceptions in the two losses. Zoeller has 1 interception this year on far fewer passes.

I do see the punt game playing a huge part in the game again. Both teams haven't had to punt often, actually T has punted 4 times in the last 5 games so actually game experience is a little thin on both teams. Z is such a weapon but didn't have a very good game in the regular season. Wyatt Gray from X has never been in this situation before.

If X can keep the short field going again, then they will come out on top. So much has been made of T's offense and the T Offense versus X defense will be the showcase, but X offense versus T's defense is interesting too.
