Just saw Mr. Draper on 'Has. He hung with the Tigers today at practice. REaffirmed how focused they are and are not to be denied. IMHO he made it evident who he thought the favorite was - and who should win. INterviewed some nice young men who stated-they sure would like one of those rings since no one on their team has one.

The great thing about both of these programs is that on Sunday morning, win or lose, all of the kids are still going to be part of something that is bigger than any of them as individuals. Something that will last through graduation and coaching changes and championships and second guessing and praise and criticism. It really won't matter when ten or fifteen years from now they get together - maybe even with some of their opponents on the other side of the line that they have known as friends and opponents - and remember what it was like in the good ole days.

No let's be realistic here. St. X averages over 40 points a game and only gives up 6.9. Considering the schedule they've played, this might be one of the best defenses the state has seen in some time. Of course, they would only need to score 2 or 3 points to beat Trinity, but I feel pretty confident they'll score more than that on Saturday night. The way they dominated the lines in September is something that doesn't change in 10 weeks.

 

If X was able to shut down "an All-American" quarterback with an above average defense, imagine what they're going to do to this year's team. Let's not forget, the first game could have been much worse, if X didn't pull their starters or suffer key injuries.

Some more perspective on the first meeting....this was the first time the Rocks faced X's new 4-3 defense. I recall a few Rocks supporters speculating that X would abandon it and go back to the 6-2. I think Beatty and Co. know now X can and will play a 4-3 and have a scheme in place to move the ball more effectively than they did in the first meeting. In addition, I think William Stein as a first year starter has improved each week and X will see him picking up blitzes and making better reads than the first meeting. I truly believe X will need at least 4 TD's to win this.

BTW did anyone mention that Mike Glaser invited Central over this week to practice on the turf at St.X to let the Jackets get a feel for PJCS turf since they have not played on it this year. Great jesture by Mike & the Tigers, who says private & publics can't get along! Go Tigers Take State!

You beat me to the punch. I was going to post this!! Anyone who knows old history will also know that in the 50s, X and Flaget were the only schools in Jefferson County who would schedule Central.

With a son on the team, I already knew this was happening. But when I saw the story on the news last night and the interview with Ty Scroggins, I started cheering. He is a class act from start to finish. It's no wonder Coach Glaser works with him. I think it showed a lot of class on Coach Glasers part to ask them to come use the facility.

There is no doubt that the this is an unsettling, edgy week leading up to the game. One sad thing is that football season will be over after the game. Then someone will have to post the daily countdown until the start of summer/fall practice.
