Do you really see/think .6 of a point is some kind of mandate? Neither one of these teams need anything extra in terms of motivitation. Don't think knowledgeable folks on here what put much stock in this particular poll.

The Tigers are the consensus # 1 - and everyone knows that.

 

Couple of points:

1. I agree that 0.6 doesn't make a difference. That means these two teams are VERY closely matched. But, no one (mostly players) pays attention to the 0.6 point difference. All they look at is who's No. 1 and who's No. 2.

2. JMHO, but this rivalry is so strong that both teams need all the extra motivation they can get to give them that extra edge to win.

3. Most knowledgeable folks on BGP don't put stock in any poll. Most of polls are based on opinion. And you what opinions are like? Everybody has one; and the all stink. Just like mine.

4. I agree, I think the Tigers are number one. However, I think the Tigers are Number one regardless of the outcome of this game. Obviously not everyone knows the Tigers are #1. Just take a look at the voting on this thread. There are 69 people who voted in favor of the Rocks. At the beginning of the week the voting was very loopsided towards St. X. All week long it has moved in the other direction. Now it's only 65% St. X and 35% Trinity.

Agree with much, of what you say. But the 65-35 in X's favor is pretty stong IMO. Those results will win you alot of elections and other contests. It tells me that all the (knowledgeable ??) folks on here rate the Tigers a heavy favorite.

No, it just means that 65% of the people think the same way. You could only determine if people think they're a heavy favorite by asking what the final margin of victory would be. Perhaps all the people that voted for the Tigers think they eek it out by 1. Point is that there's no way to know by how much people expect either team to win based on that poll.

I just wanted to say thank you to both Trinity and St.X for allowing Central and Lone Oak to use their fields. Just shows you how much class both programs have. :thumb:

OK, we're about 29 hours from kickoff. No more goofing off, my spewing sessions are over. Here is how I see this game. First, both teams have fine young men. These kids will be our doctors, bankers, lawyers, etc., in a few short years! To all I say have a safe game. At all levels of play it boils down to the guys that nobody really knows, the linemen. St. X impresses me this year as they are not going with the 20 mule team approach. I think they learned some good lessons about quickness and speed and have assembled very impressive units on both sides of the ball. Trinity is not in the lineman poorhouse. They have award winning braun, no doubt. I have seen line brilliance this year, and at times quite the opposite. So, in summary if the T O-line comes with their thinking caps on, C-dales offense plan will pass the test. Short of a strong performance, X controls the outcome. Other game notes would be the T defense that sports 3-4 players now that did not play in round one. Special team play as JRef noted is huge (T's grade in the first game was a D+, I'd expect that to be better this go round). X's qb is bound to stay healthy in one of these games, and he must be contained, not necessarily stopped. Likewise with the classy stable of X rb stallions. Who will step up and be the big play man for T on defense this year? 05 was Spoelker, 06 was Williams. Destiny awaits some young man.. on either side. The line on the game per Will W. is X by 5. That is pretty close to a toss up. I will say this game goes to the coach that risks a trick play in the second half. It's a game for the ages... DESTINY vs DYNASTY! Thus endeth my ramble, may the best team win.

But a well spoken ramble. The portion all should remember is "First, both teams have fine young men."

Heard an interesting stat on the air today.

 

Coach Beatty has NEVER lost to a team the 2nd time they faced them in a season. :scared: Obviously he can make adjustments. I hope X didn't show them too much in that first game.

It's less than a day from kickoff. I'm nervous now, "got that sickness in my stomach." Can't imagine how the players are feeling tonight. Thought about posting a request that we all be humble win or lose....but then realized that this is X and T and that would be being redundant. Here's to a good game, CHEERS!!!

My hope is that we get a game for the ages one that will surpass so many of the great games that have come before. XgradRockDad- Just drove carpool from across the street from your house ( you didn't have to burn the X jersey in effigy! JK) and I wish you could tell us what it is like since you've been through it waiting all day/week to play. Who was more nervous, you or your son? Right now, all of my fingernails are gone and we haven't even made it to the day.
