Seriously, Lincoln County has fielded other teams that would seem better suited or have a better chance to avenge our losses from 1979 (34-0) and 1981 (14-0) but this team is full of fight, is solid defensively and is versatile offensively.

 

You will probably not find an opponent that has more respect for the Birds than Lincoln County's long time fans do. If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, you need look no further than our "Mr. Ed" cannon that was the direct result of getting our rear ends handed to us in those Region games 26 and 28 years ago and being shell shocked by that darn cannon.

 

 

I talked to one of my teammates from that 1981 team last night and he remembers this (names have been omitted) about their running back:

 

"Dang, he was a little guy and I thought 'I am going to kill him when I hit him', but the first time I tried to tackle him he knocked the [deleted] out of me."

 

To me, that is the epitomy of Highlands football.

One thing that I thought was interesting: Coach French said he purposely kept the team outside during halftime.

Never seen gnats that big before. Except when I was watching the ALDS at Jacob's field and those things were attacking the players. I think its too cold out for those now. There's one good thing about cold weather, no bugs.

 

Yeah no gnats! ... but something worse was in the air at the stadium Friday night. The guy next to me looked over at me right after the 1st play and had that questionalbe look. I said, "Hey, it wasn't me!" He said, "It's not me!" I said its probably the kid with the popcorn behind us and he said - "That's not popcorn!" Anyone else get a dose? Two of my boys were on the field earlier in the day and they thought they smelled suphur. Others think it may be a broken sewer line in the vicinity. At anyrate - the gnats are gone but something awful is lurking in the dark woods behind the stadium. :scared:

....and Johnson Central went to the locker room. I don't think it changed the outcome but it is hard to go inside and warm up and have to come back out.

Too say Highlands doesn't play physical football is insane. Maybe someone can find that Mike Mitchell hit on the Boyle County RB in the endzone for a reminder.

 

Highlands has duked it out with some of the giants from Cincy/OH the past few years. They can take a hit and will deliver a hit.

I'm not going to predict a score, but my heart tells me one thing and my mind tells me another....regardless, best of luck LC! I believe I can speak for all of us at Mercer County, Southwestern, Pulaski County and South Laurel when I say that you all are representing our district proudly......a district made up of teams that were questioned throughout the year as to if they were really much count throughout the season.
