August 8, 200719 yr Everyone assumes Hank Aaron didn't use anything but can anyone say with 100% certainty he didn't?
August 8, 200719 yr I still consider Babe Ruth to be the Home Run King, because he hit most of his while fat, drunk or both. And...............don't forget the hot dogs.
August 8, 200719 yr Here is my take today. We all know that Bonds can hit. He was good home run hitter with the Pirates and a few years with the Giants. But it is obvious that steriods were involved by the increase of HR's later in his 30's and because of his massive increase in body mass. So the fact is that he could hit HRs before but because of the steriods he hit much more. And if you don't think that steriods make you hit a ball farther then I suggest you go watch a big time softball tournament this weekend.
August 8, 200719 yr YES he used steriods. NO they weren't banned by baseball at the time. YES Rafael Palmeiro failed a drug test since baseball woke up. How is Bonds the cheater? I just don't get it and evidently never will. Again, Bonds is a jerk, no argument from me. Maybe this is addressed farther down the thread but just in case.... Aren't anabolic steroids now and weren't they then illegal? If so, why do we use the fact that MLB didn't test for them as some sort of justification for Bonds?

August 8, 200719 yr Everyone assumes Hank Aaron didn't use anything but can anyone say with 100% certainty he didn't? I was just about to ask this myself.
August 8, 200719 yr Aren't anabolic steroids now and weren't they then illegal? If so, why do we use the fact that MLB didn't test for them as some sort of justification for Bonds? Okay, sorry, so you're ready to villify every major league player that illegally possessed or used marijuana during the last 30 years? It's illegal. It wasn't banned by baseball. No, if he was using an illegal substance than that is a criminal issue for the courts not a "cheating in baseball" issue. It became the latter when baseball removed it's head from the sand and got serious about it. I don't recall him failing a drug test since then. Again, I'm no fan of Bonds but the hypocrisy surrounding this issue is difficult to swallow.
August 8, 200719 yr Than we need to include every batter, who has had too much pine tar on his trademark, who's removed weight from the bat, every pitcher who's added substances to the ball, every cortisone and pain numbing shot, so a pitcher can return, every player who's ever violated the substance abuse policy and while we're at it, include those who are unfaithful to spouses since they are cheaters, include those who drank too much the night before but showed up to play the next day and so on.... Bonds started in 1986 and been hitting HR's, every since. Surprising:confused:
August 8, 200719 yr Dang! I missed it. I'll never forgive Peter Griffin. Now, let the real debate begin... When will ARod break Bonds record? 2013
August 8, 200719 yr Finally! I hope he goes on to hit many more and as long as he has not been charged or failed a drug test I will stand behind him and give him all of his just due!
August 8, 200719 yr Surprising :confused:Because....I'm a Baseball guy and seem to be defending Bonds? I'll work off that presumption, which is what a lot are doing "presuming" Bonds has taken enhancements. It truly concerns me in sports and life, we immediately take the approach of "guilty and prove to me otherwise". Stated it many times, we all have opinions and if he did take enhancements, he still accomplished the feat and I'll leave the debate, to the scholars regarding should/shouldn't. You don't have to like Bonds the person, to like what Bonds the baseball players, has accomplished on the field. Okay, sorry, so you're ready to villify every major league player that illegally possessed or used marijuana during the last 30 years? It's illegal. It wasn't banned by baseball. I started to post something similar one time and even offer this, I wonder how many "anti-Bonds fans", can lay claim of being perfect....:sssh:

Again, I'm no fan of Bonds but the hypocrisy surrounding this issue is difficult to swallow. My point is that the "it wasnt tested for" argument is a PERFECT example of head in the sand thinking. Its illogical. Illogical as in "villify every major league player that illegally possessed or used marijuana..." since no one in their right mind think that ENCHANCES the player's performance. Baseball's lack of awareness or their desire to turn their head while players were smacking HRs at incredible rates doesn't give the player free reign and give you and me the crutch that appears to be holding a lot of people up. Where do you see hyprocrisy? Who is not being bashed that precludes Barry from be bashed?

It truly concerns me in sports and life, we immediately take the approach of "guilty and prove to me otherwise". : Just for clarification: If you had to vote today on whether he used enhancements, how would you vote?
