August 9, 200719 yr Here's the thing....and i have said this in the business world, since day one....if you ever have to ask yourself..."is this right", "am I behaving the way I should", then it is not right, and IMO there is no way Barry can be honest with that....he has the record...I can't change that...but I will not respect that record, until A) it gets broken by someone who we feel did it legit, or B) it is PROVEN to be, he didn't do anything dishonest .
August 9, 200719 yr Call me jaded,if you will..Bonds' accomplishment is monumental..My congratulations to him..Five years after he retires,he will be in the HOF...and Pete Rose will not..I have a problem with that, unless he comes clean and gets tested!!
August 9, 200719 yr What exactly are "greenies"? Never mind. I just saw where someone answered that question above.
August 9, 200719 yr It's an upper that was used on game days to prevent getting worn down over the course of a season. I've heard stories of "leaded" and "unleaded" coffee in every clubhouse in baseball prepared for whoever needed a pick-me-up that day. It's illegal and was abused at a massive level for over 30 years. If the shoe fits for Barry... You're talking about completely different "shoes" based on my initial research. Greenies are essentially high-test caffeine or Red Bull-like. They do not build muscle mass. They do not add power. You may not be lethargic after taking amphetamines but you're not stronger. So, I'd have to take a long stretch to equate the two when it comes to the effect on power.

August 9, 200719 yr congrats to Bonds and the rest of his family. Also to Hank Aaron, people can now remember him for his ENTIRE game not just the home-runs.
August 9, 200719 yr The fact that there is a "problem" with amphetamines does not have anything to do with the results garnered by the use of steroids. Huh? I guarantee that a whole lot of records were broken by players on greenies over the last 35+ years. They are illegal. They enhance performance. *'s for everyone. Slippery slope indeed...
August 9, 200719 yr Huh? I guarantee that a whole lot of records were broken by players on greenies over the last 35+ years. They are illegal. They enhance performance. *'s for everyone. Slippery slope indeed... Its a stretch to say the enhance performance. Do they make players more "alert?" Yes. So does caffeine. Equating amphetamines with steroids in this instance is like saying walking a mile once a week and running 2 miles a day are the same since they both help my heart. Its all a matter of degree and in neither case are the degrees comparable.

If they think it's nothing why add it to the banned list and include it in the testing process? Banned substance by MLB. Same degrees...
August 9, 200719 yr So they are considering testing for caffeine? Right. If they think it's nothing why add it to the banned list and include it in the testing process? Banned substance by MLB. Same degrees... You are either intentionally missing the point to support your view or you're not understanding the issue. MLB does not test for caffeine because caffeine cannot kill you. Amphetamines can. THAT's why MLB is testing for it - NOT because they're concerned about the cheating aspect. Steroids fit both categories - cheating and dangerous. Heroin doesn't help a player's performance yet its baseball tests for it along with other recreational drugs, right? Same thing.

So something players take to enhance awareness (see performance) between the lines RIGHT BEFORE they go to work is fine with you? I think you are intentionally missing my point to stick to yours as well. The only reason they are banned is for health reasons? Right. We are going to have to agree to disagree...

Who said it was "alright?" All I said is that it doesn't improve performance. As a matter of fact, the more they use amphetamines the more they have to take it. Why is that? If the simple use of amphetamines increased performance they could just take the same amount all of the time. Again, its all a matter of degree and these two are not close.

How can you say without question that they don't increase performance? The point of a 162 game season is the day to day grind, and this is a drug that fights the fatigue. If it wasn't it wouldn't be labeled a dangerous illegal upper. What if it turns out Cal Ripken used greenies to help him get to the record???
