This may have already been mentioned, but I don't feel like going back thru this thread: Did anyone notice the way Barry seemingly brushed off his kid that was waiting for him at homeplate? Or that his wife and mom just got a quick hug and a quick peck? I know emotions were running high, but those would be the first people I would hunt out, wouldn't you?

I haven't posted on this thread and will not make any other post on it. I will say that the most class act of the night last night from all the replays that I have seen this morning was Hank Aaron making the statement that he did.............that was class and a person could not expect anything else out of Aaron. I will also say that the moment during Bond's speech when he recognized his Dad pointing to the sky and it was also nice to see Willie Mays there. (no suprise that he was there but good to see anyway). Having said all of that I still look for him to go back to his classless, no repect attitude that he has always had, that imo will not change either.

 

I will not change my opinion in that the most hallowed record in all of sports is now tainted and has an asterik beside it but will not go on about it either. Bonds has now hit more HR's than anyone in baseball and imo Hank Aaron is still the all time HR King and will be untill someone else passes him.

 

I respect others opinions that do not agree and was just voicing mine.

I felt like the guy in 'For Love of the Game' who sat at the bar in the airport and did nothing but rip Billy Chapel (in this case Barry Bonds) for the entire game (in this case his entire career). Then, when he completed the no hitter (in this case broke the HR record), he applauded him because he realized how big of a feat it was and appreciated being able to witness history. Last night...I was the guy at the bar...

Random thoughts:

 

* Barry Bonds is unjustly villified as the "bad guy" in the steriods era, partly because his numbers make him high profile, and probably moreso because he is a jerk.

 

* I just don't get the hatred towards him. From the time the MLB banned steroids until now, he hasn't failed a drug test. If he was doing them before, and I absolutely believe he was (with about 1,000 of his peers in tow), he wasn't breaking any rule established by the sport. Is it really his fault that MLB was slow to react?

 

* MLB's hanlding of the Steroid situation, from the word go, has been ridiculous. You put your head in the sand for years and don't react until an ex-player writes a book that you feign surprise in reading? Silly.

 

* As someone else alluded to, there were "enhancers" during many other eras, as Peter Edward Rose himself admitted to using things to keep himself up. Same thing? No. Banned by baseball at the time? Still no.

 

* The "holier than thou" approach to the steriod players (the alleged ones, like Bonds and McGwire) cracks me up. Since the game got off their rump and banned them they never failed anything. Now Palmeiro, on the other hand, deserves to be the real Villain in all of this and righly shouldn't be electd into the Hall for breaking the rule once it was in place. He is the one the angst should be directed towards.

 

* I truly believe the real penalty that all of these guys will face is yet to come -- their body breaking down far earlier than it should and costing them valuable years with their kids and grandkids. It is then, and only then, that they'll have to look in the mirror and decide if it was all worth it.

 

I'd say that's a pretty good summary of how I view it all. I like Bonds...always have. He's always been one of my favorites, but it would be quite naive to think and try to defend that he didn't use steroids.

 

Like you, I have zero doubt that he done it with full knowledge of what he was doing. However, I honestly and truly DO NOT CARE. As GT said, "Blast away."

I meant tonight. The players using when Bonds was in question spread far and wide, and outside of the 73 year, his numbers were nothing but consistent across the board.

 

If the "steroid era" is attached to Bonds, it is attached to a whole lot more than this record.

 

I enjoyed every minute of tonight with no hard feelings about the "steroid era" at all.

Did he use enhancements once they were banned by Baseball? If so, how has he avoided a positive drug test when you know he takes as many or more than anyone else?

 

YES he used steriods.

NO they weren't banned by baseball at the time.

YES Rafael Palmeiro failed a drug test since baseball woke up.

 

How is Bonds the cheater? I just don't get it and evidently never will.

Bonds apparently failed an amphetamines test last year or the year before that I do believe. IF he would have failed a test I don't even believe that Selig would have done anything about it. I honestly think that even though Selig has this investigation on Bonds that if he did fail a test we would never know about it. He's money for baseball and Selig didn't want to mess with it!

Yeah, it's hard to see that people think he done it cleanly. Steroids may have not been a problem then but the record is still tainted.

To say he just "bulked" up over his career is a joke. You show me 1 player who gained the same muscle mass that Barry Bonds did. Yes some players get more muscle over their career but none to the extent that Bonds got, and it's funny that Gary Sheffield trains with Bonds in the offseason but you don't see the "exercise" paying off for him. It's a joke!

I noticed that also. I don't think he even hugged the youngest child. If so I missed it. Mays got a longer hug than any family member.

I enjoyed the part when he acknowledged his dad and he talked about respecting Aaron but when he was at his press conference we all got to see the Bonds that we have become accustomed to seeing. I started to believe him then I remembered watching Charlie Hustle look into the camera and lie to all the fans that believed in him and supported his cause. I think Bonds did the same thing. We may never know the truth.

Bonds cheated his way to the top and that's all he cares about!

I know you're trying to make your point with me saying about doing things natural, but you and I both know there is a difference between medical treatment and performance enhancers.

 

Question, do shots that pitchers get or anything like that help their performance? I am really not sure.

I never said anything about him never hitting homeruns but he has hit more homeruns from the age 35 to now than anyone else. He used steroids, whether it was legal or not, it'll never come out definite so my opinion is pure speculation on what the media tells us. :thumb:
