March 22, 200719 yr 1) The race and irrational fanbase cards will be played by the national media as well as every other coach in the country, when dealing with recruits. 2) The program is going to be in a state of disarray next year with no solid freshman, most likely no Morris or Crawford, and possibly no Meeks, Jasper, or Stevenson. That might hurt this year, but this year's recruiting has basically come down to Patterson and Lucas anyway, so that effect will be minimal. Get a good coach who can recruit and that will blow over quickly...(see Notre Dame football)...

I'm a born and raised Kentuckian and could care less about the skin color of our coach or players. Black, White, Green , Purple, Orange, Man or Woman. Whatever, it doesnt matter to me or anyone else I know. Just have pride in the fact that you are playing for or coaching the most winning team in the history of college basketball. I'll end with this and I hope it doesnt ruffle anyones feathers. If a future player or coach is dumb enough to think that Kentucky fans are going to run them out of town or treat them with disrespect because of the color of their skin then I dont want them on our team. This is 2007, the color of your skin doesnt get you run out of Kentucky, not winning does.

Give two years and the crying will be far in the distant. If Pitino can come in on probation and get us to the final four in 3 years so can the right guy now!

But, while I hate to see him go, I understand why he left and don't blame him at all. I just hate that we lost a good man. I certainly believe in my heart that Tubby deserves better than the treatment he has received from many fans in Kentucky and hope he finds more realistic support where he is going. In the words of my father when he heard the news today "Well, the Redneck Yacht Club got what they wanted and that is sad." I will still cheer for UK, always have, always will in every sport, but I have a very heavy heart today. I was not this upset when Pitino walked away as I always knew he would. We have already seen several classless posts, and can expect to see more. I will not be around to read them. It makes me sick. Good luck Orlando 'Tubby' Smith! Thanks for the national title, the SEC titles, the SEC tourney titles, and for the class you brought to the UK program. You emersed yourself in the community and did the right thing. You have been an honest and ethical man in a business ruled by those who far too often, don't share the same ethics. NEVER a hint of impropriety in your tenure. March 22, 200719 yr Dear Tubby, You know that I have always thought you were an alright dude as well as a good coach..HOWEVER I am a little upset with you at this time because now I have to hear UK fans whine EVEN MORE than they did before for these reasons....and just so you know...it is all your fault! - Your players that leave...all your fault!! - The players UK doesn't get now....all your fault!! - UK teams in the next 5 years...all your fault!! - If they hire Crean...a BIG EAST Coach...all your fault!! And while I'm at it...I bet this other stuff is your fault too....War in Iraq, gas prices, Public/Private issues, Bengal players getting arrested, Mike Mitchell situation, why we can't pray in schools anymore.....just give me sometime and I will add more to the list! March 22, 200719 yr This is going to be a huge blow. All these people complaining about not winning are going to be in for a big surprise over the next couple of years. I wish Tubby all the best at Minnesota. He deserves to have a program who appreciates him. He has been a class act at UK. I agree, if people thought it was bad before, they're in a for a rude awakening over the next few years.
