March 9, 200719 yr I think he would have been fine if he continued to go. Going back when Meeks had the ball is a clear violation... The rule is unclear. It does not define if it's when the official let's go or if it's when the ball is recieved. I've seen many official take it back because someone was moving. I couldn't find the rule, but maybe it's out there.

Sure they got hosed, but State still had to drill the 3 with Perry in the guy's grill....Basically this game was a representation of the entire UK season. Everything that can go wrong, does.
March 9, 200719 yr Thomas made a mistake. Thats plain and simple. We also made a mistake (and I know hindsight is 20/20) by not fouling Gordon before he shot that shot. No way Bobby Perry could keep him from getting a good look. Thats a tough loss. I said yesterday that we would have a tough time with Miss St. They get after you and they didnt have to play the day before. That being said mental mistakes costed us the game. Maybe we can get over the hump and actually win a close game in the tournament!

March 10, 200719 yr Two down years by UK standards and everyone is throwing a hissy fit. Tell me this, how many championships did UK win between 1958-1978? NONE! Between '78-96? NONE! Look at Duke, another top program having a down year. It happens. The Cats will be fine. The people who call for Tubby's head obviously no nothing about the game of basketball. As many bashers say they want whats best for the program. And I do too, and right now, Tubby is whats best for the program. I'm not asking for Championships. I am asking for at least a Final Four appearance. Since 1942 Kentucky HAS NEVER gone this long between Final Four appearances. The two previous droughts have been no more than 8 seasons. I'm sorry someone who cannot recruit at arguably the the Greatest College Program at all Time, cannot motivate kids to try at the arguably the Greatest Program of All Time, has had three teams now who seasons are riddled with selfishness and uncaring attitudes (Team Turmoil, last year, and this year), has promised "it won't happen again" threee different times now, I AM thinking about whats best for the program. And what's best for the program IS NOT Tubby Smith who has tarnished the legacy of Kentucky Basketball. We have gone from elite to ordinary in the last 10 years. It's a shame. :fight:
March 10, 200719 yr I couldn't tell, but if that happened the refs blew it bad. Its CLEARLY what happened. I also have another question. Thomas left the lane because he heard a timeout call, correct? If an MSU player calls timeout with the ball in Meeks' possession (it had to be for there to be a lane violation) is it not an infraction? Maybe I'm making this up. I know you can't call a TO when you're out of them (ala Weber), but I thought that rule applied to being unable to call one due to game circumstance (i.e. the other team has possession.) Can someone clear this up? N/M.. post belows clears it up.
March 10, 200719 yr Here is what Thomas and Tubby had to say about the call after the game. Sheray Thomas What happened was the ref had the ball and Coach told me to get off the line," Thomas said. "The ref passed the ball (to Meeks) and then I don't know. He said he wasn't going to call it and then they decided to call a violation." Tubby Smith took the blame. "I said to Sheray, 'Back up Sheray, go back!'" Smith said. "At the time I didn't see the official passing the ball so it was probably my fault for telling (Thomas) to move off the lane."

March 10, 200719 yr He was off the line and in a neutral zone when Meeks got the ball. Keep going and I think it's fine. Going back and trying to get reset is a no no from my understanding... The ref should have got the ball back from Meeks and allow Thomas to either get on the line or get out. I have seen this happen several times and it has never been called a violation. The rule states that he cannot move after the shooter has the ball in his hands, so Thomas should have been allowed to reset. The officials blew this call, but after watching several games in the SEC this year, it's not very surprising as the level of officiating is down and/or inexperienced this year.
