KHSAA to consider multipliers and success factors for football realignment - What might it look like?

Semantics to me but yes I agree with you.

Which leads me back to my original question which schools get pushed down? Crittenden county and McLean county both seem like good possibilities.

Are we going to penalize public schools because they swept the boys and girls basketball tournaments?  Are we going to specifically penalize GRC for doing so?  Of course not.  Nor should we.  The whol

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: FEB. 19, 2026

The KHSAA Board of Control conducted its February 19th meeting, the fifth of the 2025-26 academic year, in Lexington. The board, by a 15-3 vote, directed the Commissioner's office to draft a recommended alignment for football in 2027 and 2028, and track and field for 2026-27 and beyond, using an enrollment multiplier of non-public schools. The draft is to use the grades 9-12 boys' enrollment for football and the total grade 9-12 enrollment for track and field and cross country. Both alignment drafts will be sent to the member schools after an upcoming special meeting, once approved, with final adoption at its May meeting.

Is this class factor a move to get the supporters of separate private/public divisions off the KHSAA backs? Now KHSAA can say we did something about it.

Right, lol, the KHSAA can say to all the haters, look at what we did to St. Henry and the private 1A schools, we are so big and tough!!

This divisor for private schools is pure ignorance. They should just call it the CAL rule because that is the only level that a private has run the state that will be affected by this rule. St. X and Trinity are unaffected. It makes no sense, fixes no problems except 3A and the whole board of control should be ashamed.

I am not sure it fixes 3A, I still would maintain LCA will be the top team in 3A assuming they move up.

To your larger point I agree, the Board of Control is an embarrassment and they should be ashamed.  All they are doing is hacking up the small, private schools and swapping LCA for CAL.

About the only thing I "like" about the anti-private school multiplier is it will put CAL in a class with most of, if not all these teams:

Boyle County
Highlands
Johnson Central
Franklin County
Paducah Tilghman
Corbin

That will make for many more interesting CAL games in the postseason because 3A has been such weak sauce.

? Not sure if all 20 people listed above are voting members, and the vote was 15-3. Taking a guess that James Demler (St. Henry AD), Donna Moir (Sacred Heart AD) were a "no." Maybe Matt Wilhoite (Kenton County Schools DAD) representing an area with a large percentage of private schools was the third?

If there's a vote on this, it should be part of the public record somewhere.

✅️ On a related side note ~

This also effects the three Cross Country and Track & Field classes boys and girls. I'd have to run some numbers, but some teams with a lot of success, past and present are likely to move up. Cov Cath and maybe Lex Cath to 3A; St. Henry, Brossart, and LCA to 2A? That's a lot of state championships - team and individual on the move.

Specific to XC and T & F, as a hard core fan, I track participation ratios as well as team and individual performances. Private schools have superior numbers across all of the "minor" sports, and imo they value these nearly as much as the "Big 3."

Historically there is a lot of long term coaching, support staff, and volunteer stability at the schools mentioned above. I believe this mirrors the success some see in football, and it applies to the girls' running programs too.

2A Cov Cath, for example, had over 40 boys run Cross Country last season. They could have fielded six teams at different levels including a separate Frosh team. Many 2A schools couldn't send one full 7-man team to the Regionals last fall. Like the "major" sports, competion for varsity roster spots is an element for success.

The public schools' inability to foster a consistently successful environment for all sports is not a a private school problem.

Lawsuit? Sign me up to help cover the legal expenses.

CAL moving up to 4A, will just have them passing the baton to LCA when they move up to 3A. Under the future projected alignments with this multiplier added in, LCA may be the happiest team in the state. They bump up to a very weak 3A without CAL and Lex Cath, and they get away from Beechwood, Mayfield, Owensboro Catholic, and Belfry. LCA will be the favorites most every year in 3A IMO.

I think the NKY private schools should be highly motivated to take legal action here.

LCA is definitely gonna be thrilled about this, no doubt.

With all of the campus renovations at Beechwood in the last few years, is there any chance that their enrollment keeps bumping up? According to the numbers the KHSAA put out today, they're currently the 5th-largest school in 2A football...only 12 shy of the smallest school in 3A.

Have the numbers at Beechwood increased that much over the past several years?
