KHSAA to consider multipliers and success factors for football realignment - What might it look like?

I am wondering how WEB DuBois will fit into this multiplier scenario?

To my knowledge (which is not much) they are different than all the other public schools in Louisville and have NO home school area.

Would they be subject to the multiplier?

I think they talked about this on TCOP this past episode. The board of control did a Private school multiplier, not an out of district school multiplier and the perspective cited was that it would be take an enormous amount of labor to track out of district students from all the member schools with enrollments changing every day. And potentially easier to mess with the numbers. If I am wrong please correct me.

So the 1.35 multiplier applied to private schools is factored in to account for a perceived advantage held by private schools to be able to accept students without being hindered by a geographical dis

Anyone know if any of the schools have challenged/legal charges for this ruling?

There is really only about 5 teams who this multiplier wouldn’t hurt. Trinity and St. X aren’t really affected because they are in the biggest class. But CAL, LCA, and Cov Cath are the only others who I don’t think it would hurt. The rest of these teams would suffer from the tremendously.  Best solution is bring back the playing up option(if you choose too), also have the option( moving up to the next class if you win back to back championships in the first two years of the realignment on a 4 year realignment scheme). But when the next alignment comes back around they move back to the class they was originally in (unless they once again request to move up). But when the team that moves up (if any) the next team at the bottom moves downs (if the team wants too, if not go to the next team and so on until a team decides to drop)replacing the team that moves up.

If Trinity continues dominating, I could see JCPS quit playing them. It's already hard for them to find teams to schedule.

I like the format here in Tennessee. Two separate Divisions for Public and Private. Of course, there are 50 private schools here as opposed to 20 in Kentucky. The TSSAA tried the multiplier (1.4 I think) for a few years before completely separating the two divisions.

We have a private school three miles from us and we and the other seven public high schools in our county don’t play them in any sport. There are exceptions where public plays private during the regular season (Montgomery Bell Academy vs. Pearl-Cohn is an old rivalry) but in the playoffs it is completely separated. Public Division 1 has six classes (300 schools) and Private Division 2 has three classes (50 schools).

Of course, there is still the on going argument of open-enrollment school systems vs. districts that enforce specific school zones within the Public Division.

Two things about this:

1. Outside of Male and maybe Manual on occasion, Trinity doesn’t want to play JCPS teams. It serves no purpose for either program ON THE FIELD.

2. Many (Most) games ADs would welcome home games vs Trinity for the gate because as we all know their fans travel.

My opinion and this was talked about a few years ago is that X and T should join with a few schools in Indianapolis and Cincinnati and form a regional showcase league. There are enough REALLY good teams in those areas to make something like that work.

Here are the private football playing schools in Kentucky again.  I am not sure what kind of organization could be cobbled together out of so few schools.

Bethlehem
Bishop Brossart
Christian Academy of Louisville
Covington Catholic
DeSales
Holy Cross (Covington)
Holy Cross (Louisville)
Kentucky Country Day School
Lexington Catholic
Lexington Christian Academy
Newport Central Catholic
Owensboro Catholic
Saint Henry
Saint Xavier
Sayre School
Trinity (Louisville)

You would have to have a BIG Division and SMALL Division, but again you only have 16  schools and their playoffs will be done pretty quickly.

I just think that can't happen until the KHSAA figures out the RPI.

Yes. We had that conversation. Coach Smith thinks it is too tough or messy to get some of the enrollment data. The OHSAA has figured out how to do it.

The public vs private debate, is dead, at least to me.  Chuck did a good job talking about the multiplier. He also offered his plan for alignment.

Our next episode is TH, 4/2 at 7:30 pm. It is w/ Damon Kelley, KHSAA Board of Control President-Elect. He is coming on to discuss realignment. I sure do appreciate his willingness to do so.

Thanks for being a listener! We appreciate it!

Trinity played PRP last year and it was ugly. It should have never been scheduled by either administration.
A limited number of public schools in Jefferson county can compete with Male Manual and lately Atherton.
Certain public schools around the state draw talent each year. Boyle, Bowling Green, Owensboro, Highlands Paducah Tillman and several others with or without private schools in the area. Consistently winning isn’t a private school thing.

A public private split is a bad idea.

Plus  public schools want to play X and Trinity because their fans show up and give a solid boost to the budget.

Are we going to penalize public schools because they swept the boys and girls basketball tournaments?  Are we going to specifically penalize GRC for doing so?  Of course not.  Nor should we.  The whole argument for having a multiplier for private schools is ridiculous as long as there is open enrollment for public schools.

Exactly and in my opinion the Board of Control is corrupt.
