There are some people at CCH who would argue that Scott's legacy doesn't exactly uphold the values you rattled off. Particularly fairness.

And if you're saying "we" so as to imply that you're part of the CCH community, and then in the same breath you're going to say that no one can argue that Scott deserves to be honored in the hall of fame more than any other coach in Cov Cath's basketball history, then clearly you haven't ever met Bob Naber, George Schneider, or Dan Tieman. All three of those men put multiple decades into CCH and into its basketball program. Two of them played in the program and graduated from the school. All of them worked primarily with the kids who came through the diocesan feeder schools instead of casting aside the feeder school kids in favor of junior and senior transfer students who happened to show up on their doorstep. If you want to talk about fairness and integrity, let's talk about that. If you think deservedness is nothing but a matter of regional titles and state championships then sure, Ruthsatz has it in spades. But don't come here and try to tell us that Scott Ruthsatz has ever operated with more faith, fairness and integrity than Bob Naber, George Scheider and Dan Tieman.

“Some people” You referring to disgruntled parents on playing time. Nothing more than feelings hurt & then you bring up transfers. 
 

When you win it brings attention. Others want to win & earn scholarships so parents send their kids there because of past success. You act like every kid that transferred there played? Many transferred back out. It comes down to SKILL!

 

Same thing happening at Newport for hoops & Beechwood for football. You win. They come. SIMPLE.

 

To bring up transfers as a reason he was not “fair” just explains you’ve never played at a high level & you live in the past. 
 

Work with “diocese” kids sounds like your one of these donors of littly jimmy whose dad thinks he’s better than he is. Believe me if your good enough it doesn’t matter where your from.

What is the process to get into the CCH HOF? How does someone get considered? Nomination? Who reviews the candidates? How is the decision made and by who? How is the Bishop involved in the process?

Sounds like Oracle has a axe to grind.  Probably had a kid who couldn’t make the team.  Let’s be for real here transfers have been part of this game forever and has only become more prominent over the past 20 years.  When you have a program like Coach Rusthatz built at CCH kids wanted to come play there and for him.  And when a transfer kid comes that is another kid who has been there for years who put in a lot of work who didn’t make the team.  Sorry Oracle but life goes on maybe the kid can play drums in the pep band.

I think you might find that CCH's basketball program was really strong and well respected long before Coach Rusthatz and will remain that way in the future. He did a fine job, but so did those before him.

Before he came 1 state runner up & 1 final four. that's IN 67 YEARS…

 

After he left 2 state titles, 2 final 4’s & let’s not even get into how many regional titles. that's IN 13 YEARS…

There’s levels to this. Feelings lie numbers don’t.

I 100% agree with you and you can also add Coach Listerman to that list but no one has taken the program to the level that Coach Rusthatz has and I don’t know what Oracle was referring to in regard to integrity.  I don’t know any of the other former coaches he mentioned but I do know Coach Rusthatz and I don’t know if I know anyone who has more integrity than he does.

Thanks for posting this. It is not comparable. 

Cov Cath pre-Scott was a respected, quality 9th region program. After Scott - they are arguably as good as any program in the state (or at least 3 to 5). Scott jumped them up levels. Unless there was some truly bad off court stuff, there is no reason to have the Athletic HOF is Scott is not in there. 

Parents of fringe athletes are always going to be upset about playing time, but it is actually crazy to me how some think they should be given that based upon where they went to grade school. I've seen/heard that a few times about the basketball program and was shaking my head at the level of entitlement. I mean come on, life and competitive athletics does not work that way, this isn't rec basketball when your kids are 6.

The goal is to get talent in the door, develop them as players (and young men through values of effort, discipline, time management, etc.) and win. Scott did that at an incredibly high level. 

Personally, I think Ruthsatz was a great, HOF coach. He has brought an extreme amount of success to CovCath's program. However, to say that the program was 100% clean, fair, and just is a totally different ordeal. He won, and kids wanted to come play for him. Probably some who lived elsewhere. There was also plenty of other shady issues during this time. But, with 2 state chips, a lot of that disappears. 

 

To the parents of these feeder kids who have issues with him because of this: You're correct, your kid probably got played over for years by these same transfers. But, if it was that big of a deal, transfer and find a better situation for your kid. There are plenty of schools in the area where your kid would get plenty of minutes. 

 

I would love for the CovCath Elites to give some sort of statement on this whole ordeal. The silence they have given is very, very loud.
