This won't last long, LOL.

$30,000,000 for three years, nice gig.

* Now seeing its a 5 year deal.

Very surprised that he went to college, he was clearly going to get paid well. I don’t see this lasting very long though.

I can’t wrap my brain around this one. He barely has enough patience for professionals under contract. How is he going to deal with teenagers and early 20s that feel entitled to more than the pros?

I mean seriously what is the angle here?

I can't remember which talking heads show it was on, but when this first popped up that he had interviewed with NC, I heard mention that this was possibly a move to get his son a head coaching job.

Bill will coach a few year & then his son will take over.

I think this shows no NFL team was going to hire him.  Maybe he thinks if he can have 1-2 good years at UNC that some desperate NFL team will give him a call.  But he's already 72.

I'm not sure. He obviously can coach but are his best days behind him? And is North Carolina the best place for him? They basically canned Mack Brown to hire a man the same age. It reminds me a bit of when Bill Parcells' name was tossed around at Kentucky. Is this really the best move?

What is the track record of pro coaches going back to college and having success? Pete Carroll was great at USC, and later in Seattle, but his pre-USC NFL career was iffy. Not only that, Carroll was still young at USC.

This feels like a 7-5, 6-6, 6-6, then step down situation.

Obviously, the deal includes free tuition for his girlfriend.  Go Tarheels!

A guy named Saban had pretty good success.  Granted I think this situation and Saban to bama are apples and anchovies!

Not exactly the same since Saban had been a college head coach for 11 years before going to the Dolphins. Belichick has never been involved in college football, let alone coached it.

The 2025 schedule is definitely advantageous for UNC. They miss Miami, Louisville, Notre Dame and Pitt, all of which plus Clemson will be on their 2026 schedule. Their 2027 schedule is probably as weak as possible for an ACC school.

Belichick can give hope next year, rebuild in 26 and have a legit playoff shot in 27 based on their future schedules.

UNC will be a playoff team within 2 years.

You heard it here first.

Why would a potential NFL prospect not want to be developed by the best NFL coach of all time?  Recruiting is not what it once was.  It is not about charming high schoolers.  It is about money and development for the NFL.  As long as North Carolina commits the financial resources necessary, I don't know why he won't succeed.  And I would tend to think that he has already had these financial reassurances before agreeing to take the job.
