Why would a potential NFL prospect not want to be developed by the best NFL coach of all time?  Recruiting is not what it once was.  It is not about charming high schoolers.  It is about money and development for the NFL.  As long as North Carolina commits the financial resources necessary, I don't know why he won't succeed.  And I would tend to think that he has already had these financial reassurances before agreeing to take the job.

He went 7-9, 10-7, 8-9, and 4-13 without Tom Brady. He has never coached at the college level, and more importantly, never recruited, never managed the transfer portal, never dealt with NIL. You guys have plenty of confidence in him as a coach, and rightfully so, but every single story about college head coaches today emphasizes that the job is 90% everything else and maybe 10% football. How many examples exist of a 72-year old doing something for the first time and being successful?

Think of it this way:  Yes. Belichick did not win a Superbowl without Brady.  But he did win 6 with him with 3 runner-ups.  In the same time frame, Indianapolis won 1 Superbowl and had 1 runner up with Peyton Manning.  It is really tough to win consistently in the NFL, even with a great QB.  Yes, having Brady helped.  But many other great coaches with great QB's did not win like he did.  Shula did not win one with Marino, for example.  So the narrative that so many have of minimizing Belichick's accomplishments just because he had Brady are really short-sighted.

I agree with you about his limited experience with recruiting, NIL, transfer portal, etc.  But neither does anyone else, including college coaches who have coached in college for decades.  It is a new era, which no one truly understands.  But Belichick does have experience navigating a payroll, evaluating players on other similar teams, and evaluating players in a level below him.  Way more experience than most college coaches.

When I first heard of him looking at UNC, I thought "no way."  But after looking at it more thoroughly and objectively, I don't see why it can't work.

I am assuming this is going to be more than just Chapel Bill.  I assume the North Carolina powers that be are ready to spend an outrageous amount of money to bring in top talent.  In other words, make NC a preparatory NFL team.

Absolutely. My point was there were clearly diminished returns in the later years of his time in New England. That was why I made reference to him being 72 years old. He's an outstanding coach, maybe the best ever. I'm just not convinced him going to a middling ACC program during this era of complete upheaval in collegiate athletics is a recipe for success.

I see your point, but NIL and the portal is just free agency, only this time he's not bound to bad contracts. You can start almost all the way over the next year. 

I could see a scenario where Belichick gets the best upper classmen talent because of his NFL connections. If you're someone like Milroe for example, why not tie your name to someone like him next year?

Belichick might have the most experience now with the ever changing NCAA landscape.  NCAA football as we know it, is dead...NFL has rules and salary caps...NCAA doesn't.  If he is assured the means to go get who and what he needs...he may knock this out of the park.

If you look at the college programs that have developed GM type rolls and most are Saban disciples...Belichick will be running a professional model from top to bottom.

Three years, year two schedule is packed. Year three it's pretty weak.

He supposedly has a "GM" type guy coming to handle the NIL stuff for him. He'll be the closer on recruiting, the assistants will do the majority of just like they do at many schools. 

I don't know if this will work or not, but he's smart enough to surround himself with what's needed to succeed.
