The only thing I’ll say is I do not buy at all all this talk that that Highlands had the better talent.  Taking nothing away from Highlands as I am sure they are talented and good kids, but what I saw was an Uber talented and disciplined CCH Team adapt, make adjustments and out play another team pretty handily.  I do believe Highlands has the talent to compete in 5A, but CCH just has more talent.

Seemed pretty balanced to me. I do think this Highlands team is the most talented group since 2014, but it was pretty clear that questionable play calling and critical turnovers were the deciding factors last night, not either team’s talent level.
All that really matters is how they adjust and what they do with that talent against 5A teams in November. This is a make or break season, and people know it. The rebuild is over.

*That would have made a great motto for this season’s tshirts btw.

Some thoughts after re-watching the game, checking out the news coverage and highlight reels, and looking at Cov Cath's stats: - Cov Cath was playing hard during the first half, but Highlands did

  • Highlands is undisciplined.

  • @859Radio I would like to hear less about the emails you receive on the broadcasts because I think it keeps your broadcast from getting into a good game flow but I don't know that I have ever thought

I’d say the teams were pretty even talent wise. The 3rd TD for CC was open down the middle bc Rodriguez had two guys take a step up to him, but a muffed punt and the easiest pick 6 in history helps as well. I honestly believe it came down to lack of discipline and play calling. Highlands could’ve run down the clock if they kept feeding Geisler, whiich would’ve opened up the field. Was it more talent that helped CC convert all those 3rd downs? Perhaps, but I saw to pretty evenly balanced teams. A shame they won’t have a potential rematch.

Guess we did not watch the same game.  A pick six, a short field on a muffed punt and first score aided by penalties.  As they say the best team doesn’t always win the game.  To say one team “dominated” over the other is just a flat out false statement.

What’s your definition of best?

I suppose you believe ball security, discipline, and well thrown balls are not characteristic of better teams? Because that’s football and why you okay the game.

CovCath was the better team, and good teams find ways to win games.

Now that I have calmed down I am okay.  The game was much closer than the final score.  We will be fine and Campbell County is perfect game this week.

You have your opinion and I have mine.  I think Highlands was and is the better team at this point in time.

But the way it was done…..

It was a no brainer. He needed to go years sooner.

I hope the coaches at Highlands realize that number 3 and 8 are not secret weapons for the Birds any longer.

Work hard Birds, it's not over until it's over.

JV was 28-27 Birds.  Frosh was 20-14 Colonels.

I passed out on the couch after my Guinness and didn't move for four hours.

It is not a laughing matter, it is sad in my thoughts. To see any High School with lack of self discipline, discipline from any Coach, discipline to put any School Uniform on and display yourself causing personal fouls, several flags thrown and a personal foul on your Coach. The only other thought I can hope is that any School Administration would step in and make it LOUD and clear that the display of discipline would NEVER appear in any game or practice, again. Once you put a Uniform on representing your school and community, you should be the epitome of self respect, school and community respect, playing by the rules of the game. Many people hope the display of said game 8/25/2023 will never be seen again by the team showing such lack of self discipline. I sincerely hope this game can be put in the archives and never be discussed again.
