Heard last night at the game from a parent with a son on the team, that the offensive coordinator for Highlands (the head coaches son), thinks he’s in line to be the head coach when his father retires. I found that laughable after watching him coach the offense. Zero chance that happens.

That has always been the rumor, right?

Yes, for the last 3 years.  But my man has LOTS to learn before that can even be considered.  Both on and off the field….

He definitely thinks he's next in line to be the Birds HC. Highlands faculty members have reported he was pretty openly touting that early on in the regime change. Some versions I've heard even have Sphire the Elder having conversations with his protégé in the AD office trying to broker that deal as well.

Some thoughts after re-watching the game, checking out the news coverage and highlight reels, and looking at Cov Cath's stats: - Cov Cath was playing hard during the first half, but Highlands did

  • Highlands is undisciplined.

  • @859Radio I would like to hear less about the emails you receive on the broadcasts because I think it keeps your broadcast from getting into a good game flow but I don't know that I have ever thought

I know this season is young but the body of work so far in the Sphire era is not good enough to keep either of them around too much longer.

Seriously doubt the AD would be given the power to make any head football coaching hire. If he made that hire on his own, there would likely be a job opening for principal and AD.

Judging from how many times I've read in this thread about how bad the Highlands play calling was, I've got to think Sphire the Younger has a lot of learning to do, and fast, if he wants to try to take over as HC without having the whole Highlands athletic department run off Memorial Parkway on a rail.

I don't disagree. But that's not gonna stop someone from trying, right? Worst they can say is no.

The principal job should be opening up in the next week or so ?.

I've always wondered this, and this issue isn't just a certain schools issue. It's in almost every game played by every school. When a player commits just an obvious cheap shot are there any repercussions except for getting a penalty? My son had one blatant cheap shot, that I saw, when he played and we had a short not so nice talk about it when he got home from the game. I'm not talking about heat of the moment push/shove/wrestle or late hit out of bounds because you're going full speed. I'm talking about when you can the player has full intention of cheap shotting the opponent. Happened in this game by players on both teams.

I don’t know them well but I like both Sphire’s. Strictly speaking from a business perspective, it’s hard to imagine either being back for a 4th season if they don’t win State this year.  HHS brought in the big gun, paid him accordingly, started a football only boosters that had raised god knows how much $$$, and have been pointing at this class as THE ONE for 3 years. It has to happen now. Maybe that’s unfair, but when Weinrich got run off, they pushed all their chips in to turn things around. It can’t take 4-5 years to do so. Duffy and Dale did it in 2.
