I cannot say you are wrong at all here,  but c’mon, it is pretty cool on a chilly October/November Friday night when these 2 hook up for a playoff battle.

The setting, the atmosphere, the air, all of it just screams perfect High School Football.  I will not disagree with you, but I will miss what could be….

For me it is different, I take more of a 50,000 foot view of Kentucky High School Football.

Some thoughts after re-watching the game, checking out the news coverage and highlight reels, and looking at Cov Cath's stats: - Cov Cath was playing hard during the first half, but Highlands did

  • Highlands is undisciplined.

  • @859Radio I would like to hear less about the emails you receive on the broadcasts because I think it keeps your broadcast from getting into a good game flow but I don't know that I have ever thought

Throw NCC, Lloyd, and Ryle in there!

Exactly, We were saying all our local fans need to do the “SEC SEC SEC” chant at all local game chanting “NKY NKY NKY” ?

Totally get it and the thought of multiple NKY State Champs is beyond cool, just missing this playoff matchup…..sometimes I lament change. Used to getting this game twice a year most years and that is now over….

Go multiple NKY State Champs!

Highlands had some definite momentum over Cov Cath in the first half after scoring two straight following the Colonels' touchdown on the opening drive, even despite several setbacks due to penalties. Cov Cath definitely needed that touchdown badly going into the half, and they fought hard and made it happen.

Highlands seemed a little less disciplined than I'm accustomed to seeing them, as evidenced, obviously, by the personal fouls - not that we didn't have a few of our own called on the Colonels. This game always has a lot of emotion, as far back as it goes, so it's not shocking to see 1 or 2 personal fouls, but 7 or 8 in one game is a lot. The difference I saw was that Highlands seemed a little lackluster when the second half started up, and Cov Cath seemed like they were as motivated as ever. I've long said Coach Eviston is his staff are about the best in the state when it comes to making adjustments at the half.

Highlands not scoring after being set up 1st and 10 on the 12 yard line was a backbreaker, and then Harney's pick-6 was the nail in the coffin.

As @TheConch pointed out in the predictions thread:

Turnover battle and special teams. Best games between these 2 always come down to this.

Who coughs the ball up most today? And who has special teams that is on point all night.

Cov Cath turned it over once, but then Highlands' attempt to convert that into points on the scoreboard failed. Highlands had the bad snap on their field goal attempt that ended their scoring thread. Highlands also muffed a punt.

On the special teams side, the Colonels missed an extra point and had the roughing the snapper call on the PAT, but then they had a pick-6, plus another interception in the 4th quarter to win the turnover battle.

That's 2 special teams error by Cov Cath and 2 special teams errors by Highlands. And then 1 turnover by Cov Cath to Highlands' 3 turnovers including the muffed punt.

The talk this week about how Highlands was going to win up front was appreciated bulletin board material. The Colonels were ready to play.

The flubbed field goal and muffed punt was a turning but without the pick six this game likely came down to the last play. Physically and talent wise they seemed even. Birds had more mistakes.

Yes, I was really disappointed in Highlands lack of discipline. And to be honest, I wasn’t impressed with the way they were coached either.

Braylon Miller really stood out to me tonight.  I know he’s not a huge guy but he was a machine tonight for CCH.

Heading to the Olde Fort Pub now...

The Colonel lines for the second week in a row were both brutally dominant.  Our trenches rule!  Congrats to Ben Reeves and company for setting the tone and getting after it.

Guys played their hearts out. Just wasn't their night. I'm still proud of them.

Seriously, Highlands has two plays in their play book. Screen pass and QB draw. They did not attempt a pass over 10 yards that I can remember.
