13th Region Week 9 Review:

1. North Laurel (14-9): After losses from the top two, the Jaguars reclaim their place at the top of the list. This week included a 58 point win over Red Bird, a 29 point win over Madison Southern, and a 17 point win over cross town rival South Laurel. Ryan Davidson joined the 2000 point club this week. A fully healthy Jaguars squad is going to be a tough out in the district and region tournament. This week has two district games against OBI and Jackson before a big time game with Madison Central.

2. Harlan (19-3): The Green Dragons had a big revenge win over Pikeville earlier in the week but then had a disappointing showing in the first round of the All A. In a game they lost 49-50, Harlan shot 5-37 from long range in the matchup. They won the rebounding battle by 19 but had 16 turnovers in the game. To make a run and knock off the defending region champs, Harlan won’t be able to have a game like this one. Harlan will play Bell County on Tuesday, before a huge matchup with district and town rival Harlan County on Thursday. Then they will wrap the week up with Clay County on Saturday.

 3. Corbin (14-5): The Redhounds kept things rolling as they went 3-0 on the week. They had a 40 point win over Knox Central, a 25 point win over Williamsburg, and clinched the district's one seed with a 12 point win over Whitley County. Corbin is playing good basketball right now being led with a balanced attack from Llewellyn, Curry, Elam, Wells, Stewart, and Worley. Corbin should stay hot as they take on Clay County and Knox Central this week.

4. Harlan County (17-4): The Black Bears had a dandy of a game with Breathitt County that they won by 9 in OT, but then was drubbed by Madison Central by 24 points. Trent Noan and Maddox Huff led the way against Breathitt going for 33 and 27 respectively. The loss against Madison Central ended a 10 game win streak. HC looks to get back on track quickly as they take on Pineville, Harlan, Pulaski County, and Newport this week.

 5. Whitley County (14-7): The Colonels needed to make a statement this week and they did just that. South Laurel seemingly seemed like a lock for the district's top seed but the Colonels had other plans as they played spoiler and pulled off the one point victory in overtime. They were led by a balanced attack as Jamie Fuson, Brayden Mahan, Jackson Petrey, and Ashton Reynolds had 13, 13, 11, and 9 respectively. Whitley turned around and hosted Corbin three days later and led many times throughout the game but couldn’t pull off the upset against Corbin. Barring any major upsets, Whitley and South will be playing the 2-3 game in the district tournament. Whitley will take on Jackson County and have a rematch at South Laurel on Friday.

 6. South Laurel (14-7): The Cardinals had a rough week as they lost a tough district game with Whitley County then got beat by 17 to cross town rival North Laurel. South has no time to hang their heads as they play Williamsburg on the road, Whitley at home, then go to Owsley to play Breathitt this week. Caden Jones and Jordan Mabe led the way against Whitley scoring 16 and 14. South Laurel is 4-4 in their last 8 games as they look to find a little bit more consistency before district and region roll around.

7. Clay County (10-9): The Tigers took home a 18 point win over Middlesboro and a 9 point win over district opponent Jackson County this week. Landon Dezarn had a monster game with 28 points on 77% shooting in the game. A young Clay team has begun to show some promise towards the end of the season. They play Corbin, Letcher County Central, Red Bird, and Harlan this week.

8. Barbourville (11-8): Barbourville started the week off strong with a 21 point win over Pineville before dropping a 15 point game to Danville. Kevin Turner and Matthew Warren each had 19 in the win over Pineville. The Tigers will play Ligon COGO, Somerset Christian School, and Betsy Lane this week.

9. Jackson County (14-8): The Generals only had one game this week and they dropped the decision by 9 to Clay County. Jude Lakes had 18 and 6 in the loss. Carter Cunagin added 13 and 4 in the loss. Jackson looks to rebound fast as they take on Whitley County, Owsley County, and North Laurel this week.

10. Pineville (11-6): The Mountain Lions dropped a 21 point loss to Barbourville, but responded well with a 9 point win over Lynn Camp this week. Ashton Moser and Sawyer Thompson were both on fire as they put up 27 a piece in the win. Pineville has Harlan County at home this week as their only game.

Best of the rest:

11. Williamsburg (9-8)

12. Bell County (8-13)

13. Middlesboro (5-16)

14. Knox Central (3-19)

15. OBI  (7-14)

16. Lynn Camp (4-16)

17. Red Bird (2-14)
