Has the schools enrollment increased a lot the last few years?

South is overflowing.  It’s in the fastest growing area of Warren County which is one of the fastest growing counties in the state.

They probably should already be in 6A.

  • I hate to say this but we are past the point of that "Highlands" on a jersey meaning something.

  • So does Highlands have to give their 7 on 7 trophy to SW?

  • Good question. There’s really no justification for a performance like this, but we’ll see what the Highlands faithful come up with.

Eventually they will get their chance at the big time.

Per the KHSAA, South Warren's 2019-2020 enrollment was 1388 with 716 boys. There's no official KHSAA enrollment data yet for 2020-21 or 2021-22.

In the last realignment, Marshall County clocked in as the smallest 6A school for boys enrollment with a 4-year average of 727.8 boys. It looks like South Warren is gonna toe the line between 5A and 6A for the next realignment, be it on the 5A side or the 6A side of things.

The way South Warren was playing last year they could have taken home the ring in 6A too possibly or at least given X a run for the ?… Would be nice if KY did like in CA. If your school thinks they’re good enough on a certain yr or know they have an elite senior class coming up they can enter into the open league where school size doesn’t matter. I wonder if teams like Boyle, South Warren, Bowling Green, FD, Beechwood and other Tradition rich smaller schools would be up for that type of challenge. I know it would be interesting to watch

That was a wild game to watch.  South Warren looked like Alabama out there.  Except for the first play from scrimmage, which Highlands should have scored on, the South Warren defense didn't make any mistakes (first team that is).  The South Warren offense had a ton of time thanks to their OLine.  They really controlled that play.  The new South QB looked like Joe Namath back there.  I think he was pressured maybe twice all game.  Your never going to beat South like that.

It's gut-check time for Highlands.  I would put Noon back at QB and have him run and pass.  He was making some plays out there but few others could get on track.

No worries.  Birds will be fine.  All the confidence in this coach and this team.

Love the optimism, and I hope you are right, but I have to ask…..why?

What have you seen in the 2 years plus with this coaching staff that makes you say that besides blind optimism?

Because I really haven’t seen much improvement.

Wow!  We got whipped.  Thought it was a good move to get leadership at QB at the end with Benke.  I believe the kids will be OK but their confidence had to be destroyed with their opening performance.  Noon needs to stay away from the QB position as he is too valuable elsewhere.  Stay the course; play each game at a time.  GO Birds.

Well, saying that was a disappointment is an understatement. Going into this game I did not expect HHS to dominate and thought the game was a tossup. But I certainly DID expect them to play physical, with passion, and execute - like a well coached team should. None of which happened; instead they got abused in all three phases of the game and honestly looked like they didn’t belong on the same field as SW.

There is WAY too much talent on the HHS sideline to have a running clock put on them. Again, not saying they should have beat SW but it is totally unacceptable to get outright dominated and most importantly for HHS to look completely ill prepared for the game.

Highlands and the Ft. Thomas community have invested A LOT of resources in Coach Sphire. Hopefully, this is a hiccup to start the season and going forward that investment starts to pay dividends because a lot of what we saw last night did not look like a team that was being put in the best position to be competitive.

BEAT PIONEERS!

“A LOT” ?

Go Birds!!!

Plenty of season left for Highlands to improve. If lose the next game to SK then that would be very concerning since beat SK last year.

To be clear, this is Coach Sphire’s 2nd Season at HHS, not 3rd like I’ve seen here a few times. He is 18 months into his tenure and is going to suffer some lumps. Better days are ahead.

They might get things figured out in 2 weeks.

I would encourage you to look at South’s schedule and look at it over the years too.

They play way, way down.  They play a lot more 4A and 3A schools than 5A historically.  And they don’t play any powerhouse programs they are forced to by play district rules.

Thanks for the clarification.

Still, he’s a full season and a full offseason into his tenure. We were told there was a ton of talent. If that’s the case, this coaching staff  has dropped the ball so far.

Til ya meet Beechwood……..

Only school up there that plays any ball. But still a big fish in a small pond. That fish competes in AA.
