Taking away any blue tinted glasses, the Highlands team that took the field yesterday, looked like the least prepared team to ever take the field in an opener in Highlands history. That’s coaching imo. 
 

You had abysmal special teams, poor tackling, wr’s crossing at similar depths, continual sideways runs, a revolving door at Qb, and zero enthusiasm. There’s several multiple year starters and more than enough talent to not be that bad. 
 

The lack of any serious injuries was the only positive I saw to take from that game. This guy isn’t getting it done.

The coaches where not on the field playing. Highlands couldn't get a snap off fumbled balls and interceptions. I think the long travel had a lot to do with it.

Yeah your right they do play smaller schools I wonder why that is? But they do play powerhouse programs outside the state like Gibson Southern and Hendersonville… ‘18 and 21’ I think were SW’s best yrs. Those 2 yrs I believe they could’ve played with anybody in the State regardless of class.

Didn’t they stay the night down in that area the night before? I thought I saw someone post a picture of them leaving on Friday? If so, then it’s not like they had to travel on game day like you just suggested. 
 

With that said last year Highlands beat a down Bowling Green team, that made people think Highlands was better than what they were. This year I think it will be the opposite. Highlands got smoked last night for sure, but I don’t think they will end up being as bad as they looked last night. 
 

Their 5A district is wide open with Covcath, Cooper, and Conner all also struggling in their first games of the year. So Highlands just like those 3 teams all still have a shot at winning the district.

I know this is only year two, but these echoes about the staff are more and more prevalent as the seasons go on. I seem to recall a thread from this summer or early spring that suggested the potential of "daddy ball" going on in Fort Thomas. Or at least that was the concern. Or, maybe some of the over zealous fans of Highlands could chill out and let the man build the program HIS way. The man can clearly coach and win at a high level. Plus, you see it more and more that less kids are transferring from other regions due to their parents working from home and sparing themselves a move.

Those are definitely not out of state powerhouses.  And Hendersonville beat them last year.

They like to pad the win column. A lot people don’t pay attention to the schedule so it makes them look a lot better to a lot of people.

They pretty much dodge all the big schools unless they can’t avoid it like District or Playoff games.

But it’s working at least some what.

I’m not a Highlands expert nor a fan, but I was at the game yesterday. If a team I rooted for player the way Highlands did yesterday, I would be very worried about the entire program.

1. Who is really running the show?

2.  Was the lack of enthusiasm a result of kids not being bought in?

3. Was the confusion a result of too many responsibilities which cause more thinking than reacting?

Amen! Any Highlands fan not concerned is delusional. You have to have buy in. It looks to me like, the kids aren’t buying whatever the coaching staff is selling. The coaching hire should’ve been someone/anyone homegrown who understood the community and the Highlands football traditions. 

Call me a skeptic. I know this sounds harsh, but I can’t envision the current staff restoring Highlands football.  Great staffs don’t work as long and hard as they supposedly did, and come out looking that bad. Inexcusable! 

I will say that might be worst Highlands has ever been dominated by a team that wasn’t GCL or 6A. They looked like they haven’t gone “live” yet this year until this game.
 

I feel bad for the QBs. I’ve never seen drops that bad. WRs I think only caught 1 ball and we’re hit in the hands a lot. OLine play was embarrassing I really felt for them, they looked so unprepared. there was like 2 or 3 pick sixes. And 2 or three fumble recoveries for TDs. So I think at least 28 points on the offense not D. D also didn’t play that great, but half of that score total isn’t on them. Also they got worse field position than you could imagine. 
 

I didn’t see Noon onD? Thought that was the whole point to going to WR? Got to find a way to get the ball in noon and Benke hands. 
 

They looked like they weren’t into it and had no enthusiasm. Hopefully they can change it around.

On their last Kentucky school report card, which was for the 20/21 school year, they were up to 796 males. If they do the data as they have recently, that will be the last of the four years that they will use for averaging. But they were in the low 600s for the first two years of this cycle (17/18 & 18/19). If those two years are used, I think they’ll remain 5A as one of the highest out there. If it’s just the last two years, they’ll be 6A. 
 

If they don’t go 6A in this cycle, I don’t see how they wouldn’t be in the next one. They might even get the mid alignment correction they got the last time, because by trends - adding nearly 200 boys in two years - they’ll be a huge outlier in 5A even more than now.
