News swept the Brossart and Northern Kentucky sports communities this morning that our present Fast-Pitch Softball Assistant Coach, Boys Basketball Public Address Announcer, and former longtime Athletic Director has passed away.

Melvin was quite instrumental in running the Northern Kentucky Athletic Director's Hall of Fame, and is known to be the Northern Kentucky Girls and Boys basketball historian.

Melvin was looking forward to coaching the Brossart softball team again this spring with Tom Baynum, and was recovering nicely from a recent hospital stay.  This is obviously sudden and shocking news to all of us.  

Rest in peace Mel. 

Man, that's sad.  He was a staple in the Brossart community.

A trip to a game at Brossart wasn’t complete without a conversation with Mel.

Met Mel years ago and used to say hello to him at the Scott vs Brossart games. My condolences to his family and many friends. May God be with them during this very difficult time. RIP Mel.

Actually RP in all of NKY. Knew Mel for over 45 years. Met him when he was with the Bellevue Community News and then as AD and coach at Brossart. Just a wealth of knowledge about NKY sports and a great proponent for girls sports. He was a driving force of the Famous Recipe Basketball Tournament, Banquet, and the Star of the Week program. I'll miss my old friend.

RIP Mel Webster.

A true icon in Northern Kentucky Sports.  His Famous Recipe Tournaments were the class of all tournaments for a long stretch.  Sat in a hotel lobby for a long stretch one night during the Famous Recipe just listening to Mel Webster, Dale McMillan, Dave Groeschen and others.  A joy to listen to!

So sad.   Mel was a character and he could tell a story.

A good dude. One of those guys that knew everyone and everyone knew him.

The best one he shared was about the legendary Al McGuire when he was the guest speaker for the Famous Recipe Stars of the Week banquet. I'm smiling thinking about it.

I have known Mel since high school years, Mel was an outstanding softball coach and supporter, he loved his Mustangs. Rest In Peace .

Mel was an encyclopedia of Northern Ky. and Kentucky sports knowledge.   I enjoyed my many conversations with him over the years.   May he rest in peace.

Attended school with him for a while.  He also did some PA work for Holmes Basketball back in the day.  RIP Mel.
