With 2A adding Belfry and Glasgow, it definitely makes it tougher.  Crittenden County moving up and Middlesboro moving down, seems kinda like a wash to me. With 3A losing ETown, Paducah Tilghman, Ashland, Mason Co and others makes 3A look less impressive over all.  Adding Lex Cath, Central and Franklin-Simpson helps the top end of the spectrum, but not many others except maybe Bourbon County would be a probable top 10.  Knox Central would be in some years I’m sure.

4A is what got the biggest bump IMO and will be tough for good teams to crack the top 10.  Whoever is in the top 10 of 4A going forward will be really really good.

I’m excited to see how it all plays out!

They are the smallest school in 2A with 1.3 avg. boys more than Newport.  They were going to be in 2A four years ago as well but Trimble opted to play up to 2A for travel purposes.

Christian County has stated that they intend to play up in 6A. The 6A classification only showed 31 teams in the KHSAA's enrollment release from December 5th, so that still leaves it a little unclear as to whether or not that means South Warren will be offered the opportunity to move back down to 5A as the smallest program in 6A.

The last time around Western, who had been slated for 4A, elected to play up in 5A. They're shown in 4A again in the release from the KHSAA, but I'm not positive that they will be playing up again.

Trimble County elected to move up from 1A to 2A in the last realignment. They are shown back in 1A in the release from the KHSAA, but they're another team I wouldn't be so sure will petition to play up again.

Central elected to move up from 3A to 4A in the last realignment. They are shown back in 3A in the release from the KHSAA, and they're also a team that may or may not elect to play up again.

I think there's a possibility that we see Lincoln County try moving up to 5A.

Not sure about anyone else....

Retired Oldham County/Jeffersontown head coach Mike Shatzer has what I'd call a fairly decent take on things for a "mock realignment".

Nothing official here, whatsoever. He takes into account the fact that Christian County has already stated that they will be petitioning to play up in 6A, but no other movement is taken into account - and we know there's going to be more movement.

Shatzer has no KHSAA affiliation as a podcaster/retired football coach. I could see some complaints from a few teams (Highlands and Beechwood, particularly), and I think there could potentially be some other shuffling around of districts in 1A and 2A. Again, though, this is all going to be changed once we get a look at who's petitioning to move up, and which teams will move down once other teams move up.

Another note I'd have is the fact that, per the KHSAA's enrollment release for the 2023-2026 realignment, Jackson County is not competing, but the enrollment release was showing Jackson County in 2A, and Coach Shatzer includes them as one of the four teams in his 2A District C.

Overall I think this is a great first swing at things, even though we know it will be different because of additional teams petitioning to play up.

I have heard Belfry will stay in 3a.

Paris is a 2 hour drive to Raceland

Somerset is 2 /1/2 hours from West Carter

Beechwood is 2 hours to Danville with at least 6 2A schools closer

Rockcastle County is at least 2 1/2 hours from Lawrence County

Highlands and Scott look incorrectly aligned
