BluegrassPreps.com 14th Region Week 7 Review

Recommended Posts

And just like that, the season is winding down as we get closer and closer to the post season. Let's take a look back at week 7 in the 14th Region.

1) Perry County Central (15-2):

Commodores keep on rolling: Perry County Central is hot right now, having won 5 straight since their loss at Mason County back at the end of December. Commodores throttled both Letcher County Central 76-45 and Garrard County 65-48. They keep this up and they will be hard to beat.

Upcoming Schedule: Tuesday vs. Wolfe County, Wednesday vs. Buckhorn (District Game), Friday at Hazard.

2) Breathitt County (14-2):

Bobcats were off: Breathitt County didn't play last week and won't play again until this weekend. Bobcats are gearing up for the All "A" State Tournament the week of the 27th at EKU McBrayer Arena in Richmond.

Upcoming Schedule: Friday at Wolfe County (District Game), Saturday at Highlands.

3) Wolfe County (13-5):

Wolfe gets revenge and starts to get hot: Wolfe County picked up a big win over Hazard last week defeating the Bulldogs 75-65 to revenge an earlier season loss. Wolfe County also defeated Powell County 64-47 for the second time this season. Wolfe County is getting hot again and could be a dangerous team for anyone in the 14th region.

Upcoming Schedule: Tuesday at Perry County Central, Friday vs. Breathitt County (District Game).

4) Hazard (12-5):

Bulldogs slacking but still playing good: Hazard has gone 2-2 in they're previous 4 games but despite that they are playing good basketball right now. The Big issue they will face from here on out is they will be out with not only they're leading scorer, but the 14th region leading scorer in Andrew Ford who tore his ACL. That's a big blow to the Bulldogs.

Upcoming Schedule: Monday vs. Letcher County Central, Tuesday at Leslie County (District Game), Friday vs. Perry County Central (District Game).

5) Knott County Central (4-9):

Patriots split two: Knott County Central split both games last week, defeating Floyd Central 61-48 but falling to Johnson Central 70-60 in the Big Lou Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at Perry County Central. They are still struggling however, can they get things turned around?

Upcoming Schedule: Saturday vs. Betsy Layne.

6) Cordia (5-6):

Lions snap skid: Cordia came into this week on a 3 game losing streak. Lions also only had one game, a game where they were on the road at Buckhorn. Cordia wouldn't have any issues as they would roar past the Wildcats 101-76.

Upcoming Schedule: Thursday vs. Red Bird, Saturday at Harlan County.

7) Letcher County Central (6-8):

Cougars snap skid: Letcher County Central came into last week riding a 3 game losing streak (one which was a covid cancel). Letcher County Central was able to pick up a road game on Friday at Pineville, which they didn't have any issues with a 69-47 win. Letcher County Central would make the 2 1/2 trip to Irvine to take on the Engineers, a game where, again, Letcher County Central wouldn't have any issues, derailing the Engineers by 39, 83-44.

Upcoming Schedule: Monday at Hazard, Tuesday at Floyd Central, Thursday at Harlan County, Friday at Lee County, Saturday vs. Powell County.

8 ) Estill County (6-8):

Engineers starting to struggle: With last week's blowout losses, Madison Southern 79-41 and Letcher County Central 83-44, the Engineers have now lost 2 straight and 4 of they're last 5 games. Estill County may have to play the rest of the season without guard, Kade Benton who is out 6-8 weeks with a broken wrist. Schedule Change: Estill County will not be playing Breathitt County this season, the game was originally scheduled for February 15th, Robertson County will now take the play of Breathitt County. That game will be a 6:30 tip.

Upcoming Schedule: Tuesday vs. Owsley County (District Game), Friday at Powell County (District Game), Saturday at Bell County.

9) Buckhorn (7-12):

Wildcats are starting to hit a snag: Buckhorn opened the season red hot, winning 4 of their first 7 games, 3 of them in a row, since then, Buckhorn has gone 3-9 (2-6 in they're previous 8 games).

Upcoming Schedule: Tuesday vs. Lee County, Thursday at Perry County Central (District Game), Saturday at Robertson County.

10) Lee County (7-8):

Bobcats have dropped 3 straight: Lee County's 61-40 loss to Magoffin County in the Big Lou Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at Perry County Central was they're third straight and they have now lost 4 of they're last 5 games.

Upcoming Schedule: Tuesday at Buckhorn, Thursday vs. Letcher County Central, Saturday at Leslie County.

11) Powell County (5-11):

Powell County still on a losing skid: The Pirates does have a covid cancel victory over Owsley County but, since not getting to actually play the game, they are now on a 5 game losing skid with last week's loss to Williamsburg 61-45.

12) Leslie County (2-12):

Eagles drop another: Leslie County fell to Clay County 70-56 last week, which was they're 6th straight. Eagles have yet to get a win in 2022.

Upcoming Schedule: Tuesday vs. Hazard (District Game), Thursday vs. Owsley County, Saturday vs. Lee County.

13) Jackson City (2-10):

Tigers still struggling: Jackson City continues to struggle, having dropped 6 straight (one was a covid cancel). The Tigers haven't won a game since December 17th (basically the start of the season, we were just a few weeks into the season since this win).

Upcoming Schedule: Tuesday vs. Jenkins, Thursday vs. Magoffin County.

14) Owsley County (2-9) :

Owls still looking for another win: Technically the Owls are 4-10 because they have a covid win and a covid loss. They lost 89-52 to Pineville which made them they're 8th straight loss (not counting the covid cancels). Owls last win came on December 8th.

Upcoming Schedule: Tuesday at Estill County (District Game), Thursday at Leslie County, Friday vs. Menifee County.
