6th Region after week 9

A great week of games (and the LIT!!) has caused some movement in the rankings - let's see what's going on in Region 6!

(season averages in parenthesis)

1. DeSales (16-5)  LIT CHAMPS - not much else to say - they defeated Ballard 74-73 in OT to win the Title!  Sekou Kalle was unstopable in the title game and won the MVP - Devin Perry and Keith Robinson were named ALL - LIT team.  They start this last week of the season with a huge district match-up with Butler on Mon 3/8.

2. Fern Creek (10-5)    The Tigers cemented themselves as the co-favorite with DeSales in the region with some strong LIT performances. They easily beat PRP (69-51) in the QF, and gave Ballard all they wanted, eventually falling 62-54 in the semi-final.  Jr Darian Lewis is pacing the Tigers (14p) in scoring, and also made the ALL-LIT team. FC returns to the court 3/9 vs. Moore.

3. PRP (10-3)  The Panthers went 1-1 LIT week - beating CAL in the 2nd round (82-69) before losing to Fern Creek in the QF.  Soph Zee McCown has raised his scoring average to 19p a game, and make the ALL-LIT team.  The Panthers return to the court Monday 3/8 vs. Valley.

4. Butler (6-3)  The Bears had a solid LIT - going 2-1 with wins over Fairdale and district rival Doss (71-68), and then losing to Ballard in the QF.  Taevon Dozier has been on a tear lately, leading the Bears in scoring (16.4p)  They have a HUGE games vs. DeSales on 3/8 for top seed in the district tourney.

5. Doss (9-4)  The Dragons went 2-1 LIT week - beating Valley and Southern but losing to Butler 71-68 in the 2nd round.  Senior Tony Moss (16.8p/ 7r) is leading their balanced attack,  but all 5 Doss starters average 9p a game or higher.  They end the regular season @ Central on 3/12.

6. Bullitt East (8-7)   Bullitt East went 2-1 this week in the LIT - losing to St. X in the QF but beating Moore and Western.  The Blanford's, jr. Tucker (17p) and sr. Will (13.5p) and are pacing the Chargers, with sr. Collin Powell chipping in (10.7p).  As of today, their schedule is done for regular season.

7. Western (6-6)  Western went 1-2 this week in the LIT - defeating Collegiate but losing to Trinity and Bullitt East.  So. Trent Hinkle (14.2p) and Sr. Janhoi Lee (12.1p) lead the Warriors in scoring.  The Warriors take on Iroquois on 3/9.

8. Jeffersontown (4-6)  The Chargers went 2-1 in the LIT - losing to Eastern in the QF but defeating Beth Haven and North Bullitt along the way.  Will Vasser (13.4p) leads a balanced attack with 4 starters averaging 10p or higher a game.  They travel to Manual on 3/9.

9. Southern (9-5)  The Trojans went 2-2 this week - wins over Central and Shawnee - losses to Ballard and Doss. Sr.'s Camden Pfeister (17p), 6' 9" C Evan Frederick (14p), and Xavier Shobe (13p) lead the Southern attack.  They host Fairdale on 3/9

10. Holy Cross (14-8) The Cougars of HC had a busy week - playing 5 games (3 LIT), defeating Iroquois, and CE, losing to Manual, Waggener, and St. X.  Fr F Jacob Hand is leading HC in scoring (16.7p), and made the ALL LIT team. Next up for HC is Brown on 3/8.

11. Evangel (8-10)  The Eagles went to the semi-finals of the State All A tourney - beating Somerset and Calvary, but coming up short vs. Clinton Co. @ EKU.  So. Dawson Black continues to lead Evangel in scoring (19.5p) but the additions of 10th grader C Cyr Malonga and jr. G Gage Mabry will change the attack for the Eagles going forward.  They travel to Madison Central on 3/8.

12. Beth Haven (17-5)   Beth Haven went 2-1 this week - losing to J-town in the LIT but defeating FCA and Valley.  Jr. Luka Mateski continues to pace Beth Haven (22.5p/10r) and sr. Luke Easley, who scored his 1000th point this past weekend, is averaging 14 a game.  They next host Wellspring on 3/8.

13. Bullitt Central (10-12)   BC went 1-1 this week with a win @ Henry Co and a loss to Grayson co.  Jr. Hunter Coleman (18.9p) and Sr. Gavin Hedges (17.7p) continue to lead the Cougars.  They next travel to Washington co. on 3/9

14. Moore (4-7)  The Mustangs split games this week with Bullitt East (L) and Atherton (W)  Sr. Darius Carver (15.2p) is leading the team in scoring.  Moore host Fern Creek on Tuesday 3/9.

15. North Bullitt (7-13)  North Bullitt went 1-2 this week in the LIT - they beat Waggener 75-74 first round but lost to DeSales and J-town.   The Geary brothers - Ryan (15p) and Dalton (13p) are pacing the Eagles.  They next play @ Iroquois on 3/11.

16. Valley (2-7)    The Vikings beat Portland Christian but lost to Doss and Beth Haven this week.  They next play @ PRP on 3/8

17. Iroquois (2-7)   The Raiders defeated Walden in the LIT this week, but lost games to CAL, Holy Cross and South Oldham.    They next play Western on 3/9.

18. Fairdale (2-9)  The Bulldogs went 1-2 this week, winning over Portland Christian in the LIT but losing to Butler and Central.  So. Dalton Hicks is pacing the team (15.7p)  Fairdale host Thomas Nelson on 3/8

19. Whitefield Academy (1-18)  The Wildcats got their first win of the season over Covington Latin (64-27) on 3/5. They next play Frankfort Christian on 3/8.

It really is crazy to see that. This has to be an anomaly of a year for them. They’ve at least been middle of the pack for awhile. But anyone from the Louisville area understands what changed.  Certain housing developments were torn down. Also, in the 90s, they had “magnet programs”. Now it’s wide open enrollment. Kids just aren’t pulled to Fairdale anymore. And the older guys just lean on the 90s glory instead of trying to change the perceptions.
