It wasn't just numbers. These guys were considered in the top 50 in the nation.

Right. But this wasn't some of the past classes where the #1 school had 2-3 players in the top 5.

I get that we were all expecting more, but to expect these "lower ranked" guys to showcase NBA talents out of the box is unrealistic. Sometimes they do, but mostly they do not. Couple that with the fact they are to be THE leaders of the team, you have a recipe for 5-10.

But not every season's Top 50s are created equal. Would Clarke be the 8th best player in next year's class? Would Jackson have been 30th last year? I have no idea what the answers are but those numbers are more of a snapshot with lots of mitigating factors than a true testament to the skill and quality of a specific player.

Cal isn't there to win championships, remember?

He's there to produce NBA players....

I'm not on the "Can Calipari" bandwagon....he simply doesn't have the same kind of talent this year, and definitely not the chemistry.    You have to have the horses to pull the wagon.  But that statement would bug me if I was Barnhart.

I wonder if that was mentioned in his initial interview at UK...  Somehow I doubt UK was hiring him solely to produce NBA talent....

On years when you don’t have NBA talent, isn’t it the coach’s responsibility to assess the talent you have and coach to that talent level? A guy making 11 million per year should be able to handle that task. And that is very clearly not happening right now.

Askew in this game. 24 minutes. 0-2 from the field, 2 assists, and 1 rebound. I guess his presence allows Mintz to play more off the ball, but damn he brings so little to the table beyond that some games.

In the words of longtime college coach Abe Lemons while serving at the University of Texas when one of his players posted similar numbers, " Congratulations son, you did three more things than a dead person". Used that on 6'11" center after a one rebound ( and that's it) stat line.

Take out Askew and throw in Boston and I agree. Then Clark too if he ever returns. However, you are correct it needs to be a 7 or 8 man rotation at most.

We disagree on a lot. However, in terms of this year. I agree he has not done a good job with this team.

Boston and Clarke were both suppose to be studs. Boston was looked at as a guy that should have been a lottery pick after one year. Sadly they just weren’t as ready as expected, to be able to come in and play at a high level.

Cal and his system relies so heavily on a STUD point guard. We definitely don’t have one. Askew is young and not the answer. Cal put all his eggs in one basket on Cade and lost him to Ok St. The Cooper Kid at Auburn would have made a world of difference on this team but CAL passed on him.

Players going to the NBA and winning titles are not mutually exclusive.  Many UK fans will never understand that.

It's my turn to agree with someone and I totally agree.  Askew and Hagans have been detrimental to these teams.

A junior Hagans, with a freshman Askew learning, could be great.  Problem is the players and those in their ears have other ideas, thus we don't have a Junior Hagans and he made his first apperance in a NBA game last night with 2 mins to play.

To get a full picture, how does that compare to Izzo, Coach K, Roy Williams, Shaka Smart, Tony Bennett or any coach that people want Cal replaced with?

Not sure but from 2010-2015 KY (CAL) was 41-14 versus ranked teams. That a drastic decline.

Is Boaton the most over rated recruit at UK in Cal's tenure? Pre-season he was rated the #2 pick in this coming NBA draft.

Sadly, Cal has passed on a bunch of good ones.

Him or Alex Poythress.
